4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a hazy yellow golden color with a trace of top rising bubbles. The nose is ripe funky fruit, citrus, grain, cider, vinous notes, barnyard brett and some sweet lemon undertones. The palate is a peppery spicy saison heightened by barrel funk and tart citrus fruit. Nice balance between tart and funk. Big rustic grainy background and a crisp dry finish. Nice dusty lingering barrel notes.

500ml bottle. Thanks Dan! Pours a clear, yellow-amber color with a white head that fades to bubbles around the edges of the glass. Aroma is yeasty, earthy, some oak, some white wine. Medium on the palate with lively carbonation. Flavor is lightly sour, tart, fruity, wine, oak, some Bretty funk, with a nice, tart, funky finish. Very nice.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500 ml bottle thanks to Reggie Dunlap. The brew poured hazy yellow with some ectoplasm. Very chucky yeasty clumps that even on a slow chanted pour, still find the way into my snifter. Nose is a nice white grape, oak and lemons. Flavor is really great, lemons, hay, grass, some light vinous character, some oak, and mild tartness. Light body with medium-to-soft carbonation. Dry texture with some citrus rind. Some clumps and marmalade had to be scooped out of my snifter but the flavor wasn’t compromised. Really nice saison.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at RBWG 2014. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a nice light tartness with funkness and a bit of light bread backing. Flavor is more mild with an earthy grain and funk with just a hint of tartness and dry wine.

Big thanks to Reggie for this beaut! OK, so it says its a saison on this site but I’ll tell you, hah hah, from the start, including the smell indicates its some sort of mild wild or mild sour beer. The big RD comes thru with a great mild tart beer just a little more than rodenbach, I’m liking this. If you closed your eyes you would expect a somewhat darker brew. Yes, pleasant, hypnotizing cloudy lemonade look and tart fun feel to this fun stuff. So much fun, hey ho lets go. Oh yea, much better than expected, thot this would be just another bitter saison, but no! Not too sure about the oak, but this is increasingly becoming quite friendly. Now I’m starting to think this beer ROCKS! Kerry, you are way too kind! Thanks for a wild surprise, just fabb! Why do they put wax on these? Hard to get the cap off. Do you think the wax adds that special flavor I detect? heheh. Can you believe this was a throw in? NO WAY!!!!

Taster at RBWG 2014 grand tasting - thanks to the person who shared this! Very pale yellow color. Mostly hazy. Thin off-white head, couple dots of lace. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Good oaky aroma, lemony citursy aroma. Moderate sweet taste, light tart. Awesome, lightly sour taste. Good yeasty aroma.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle, Batch 1. Reviewed from two tastings (August 2013, Nov 2013). Thanks TheEpeeist for the first and bytemesis for the second! Aroma is rather vinous and funky with nice buttery chardonnay character, musty wood, hay, grass, citrus, lemon and sour grain. Very rustic indeed. Pours a pale cloudy yellow with a small soapy white head that hangs out for a while. Nice rings of lace as well. Taste follows pretty darn closely with an excellent tangy lemon bread, citrus, white wine, light butter, honey and grainy undertones. Almost seems like the epitome of rustic barrel aged saisons. As much as I love Saison Bernice, it tends to be more on the lactic side where this is grainy, doughy and lemon forward. I think it has a bit of an edge with more barrel nuances. Body is on the lighter side with medium carbonation. Finish is lightly tart, with some tannins and citrus. Definitely a top 3 saison for me.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 3, 2014 1 day old batch 3 bottle. Near transparent gold, fizzy white head lasts briefly before dropping to the appearance of an effervescent cider. Cider like pear-heavy nose, delicate passion fruits dancing softened by the vanilla before considerable oak and heavy dust throughout. With warmth the sharpness blows off for intoxicating perfume notes. Cider-esque flavor, high acidity and dry considerable pear and apple skin sourness across the whole palate through to the bone dry, lightly oaky end that drops off like a cliff. Esters emerge with warmth, bubblegum hints and lots of dry grass. Maybe too delicate for its own good, but shit is it quaffable.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
500 ml. bottle. It pours a very pale yellow color with a thin white head. Kind of cloudy. The aroma is kind of farty/funky with some nice pineapple and lemon acid. There’s some grainy wort in the background. The flavor is very soft and mildly tart with some light orange, citrus peel, a little bretty funk, pineapple, leather and subtle oak in the finish. Mild vanilla coming from the oak. The vanilla, pineapple and citric tartness/bitterness all meld really nicely in this one. Light bodied, but a full creamy mouthfeel. This was a fun beer.
