Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, lemon, red wine, and roast. It pours a dark brown with some faint orange highlights with a small beige head that fades to a thin film outlined by a slightly thicker ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and a hint of molasses. He finish has light-moderate vinous notes with lemon and a touch of roast. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat soft mouthfeel. Overall, it’s solid, but wine barrel aging an Imperial Stout really isn’t my thing.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pitch black ale with an insignificant, creamy, off-white head. The aroma is a fantastic intermingling of chocolate, toasted tree nuts and pinot noir. Full-bodied and silken with zippy carbonation. The flavor is tangy, vinous and burnt. Finishes deeply roasted and tangy, but also moderately bitter. Kudos to landhoney for landing this bottle to share with the South Florida Brew Crew!

Leighton 10K tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Bruce. Opaque dark brown beer, good yellowish tan head. Palate is airy and a little soft. Light fine carbonation. Mild red wine on the nose. Very mild dark malts but there is a touch of spice. Red wine tang and red wine berry fruits. Light dry finish with more spice. Overall the spice is interfering a tad, bit young I think.

Bottle, big thanks to Bruce. It pours pretty much black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, vinous, roasted malt, grape skin, cocoa and earth. The taste is roasted malt, vinous, red grape skin, dark chocolate, tangy dark fruits, earth, wood, light vanilla and some warming alcohol. Full body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. all comes together rather well. I am a big fan of red wine barrel aged stuff and this is no exception.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Bruce! Pours clear, rich brown with a frothy, tan head. The nose does have some vinous quality, a bit of tangy dark fruit, some cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, nice dry cocoa, further tangy dark fruits, some tangy wood, light char, subtle alcohol. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Light warmth in the finish, nice lightly dried tangy dark fruits, chocolate, low bitterness. Solid beer. Nice nuance, good depth. Very nice.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
near black, thin coffee head dissipates fast to oily cap. Oat and light anise nose, sugars remain amidst faint red wine oak and lightly vegetal spice, meaty even. Sweet and papery flavor up front, inky mid with sugar an tar, light oak before the sugary finish, thin and hot, definitely aged, very little wine, oxidation too strong.

Pour is black with a tan head. Nose is dry malt, light olive and notes of milk chocolate. Vinous notes with berry malt sweetness. Taste follows the nose, olive and hints of milk chocolate with berry sweetness and vinous red grapes. A touch of paper. Not sugary, malt richness isn’t high. Body is thick and velvety, carb is light to moderate.
