Bottle shared in an NYC deli down in the Financial District. Classic! Pours deep brown with a thick, foamy tan head. The nose holds lightly tangy dark malts with hints of burnt wood and chocolate. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with rich fruits, milk chocolate, subtle roasted malts, burnt marshmallows. Full bodied with fine carbonation and a very creamy texture. Faint warmth to finish with rich cocoa, creamy mousse, milky chocolate, dark cake, mild licorice. Decadent and well put together. Quite drinkable.

500mL shared with GT2. Not sure what happened with this one since the Rye Whiskey version was so great. This one seems overcarbonated and drained. A beautiful pour nonetheless, the aroma seems to be spot on with dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon. But the taste is too sweet moving to ashy with a drained, almost Brett infected palate. Strange.

500mL thanks to ThoreauLikeGrl. Pours clear deep brown looking black in the glass. Smaller, dense creamy coffee foam. Really beautiful lacing. Nose has some fruity strawberry mixed with dense chocolate cake. There is also whipped cream, graham cracker, and salted caramel. Taste up front is rich and silky texture wise but the flavors are harsher black crayon, licorice, and hefty earthy soil. There is also some soda sugariness coupled with the overcarbonation present in this series. Mouthfeel suffers a bit from this. As it warms the sugariness coupled with the earthy soil is too much for me to dish out a higher score. The Rye Whiskey BA version was able to integrate the beer much better and kill the earthy soil and sugariness. Overall I wish it were a lot more hoppy and dense.

Jesterdeal (1659) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - AUG 10, 2013
Bottle shared for Bruce’s B-day. Aroma is sweet with notes of rye, licorice, and chocolate. Pours deep brown and kind of thin looking with decent film. Taste is similar to the nose. A sharp rye, slight licorice, chocolate and slight coffee. Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated. Nice stout but a tad overrated.

Bottle. Side x side x side (steel, red wine, & rye whiskey). Poured a dark brown color, almost black and a small sized off white head. Roast, chocolate, dark fruits, and caramel. Alcohol content hidden.

Palme (3013) - Bergen, NORWAY - AUG 7, 2013
Sampled from a 0.355l bottle @ Top Hops (BA) Bottle Share. Deep dark brown/red with a small sidesticking dark brown head. It has a soft nose, lots of sweetness, dark caramel and chocolate malts. Some soft prickling carbonation in a thick oily mouthfeel. Surprisingly the taste is really fruity, almost a bit soapy and sweet. Nice stuff, but was not expecting all that fruitiness in such a deep dark beer. The alcohol is also hidden perfectly. 15.06.2013

Growler (stainless version) thanks to Seth for sharing. Dark brown pour. Caramel and chocolate aromas. Sweet, milk chocolate, caramels, tasty roasted malts and coffee notes. A little thin in the body. Decent mouthfeel. Not sure their method for carbonating growlers works.

Growler: The aroma consists of dark chocolate, black licorice, molasses, and roasted coffee. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a minimal beige head. The flavor starts with dark chocolate, residual sugar, and black licorice. It finishes with with light roasted coffee and light burnt notes. It’s medium-full bodied with light-moderate carbonation.
