UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 Deep red-brown body, moderate sized pale brown head, soapy lacing. Nose is quite tannic with the red-wine barrel providing most of the punch here, vinous notes, oak, dark fruits, musty brett, and a little earthy roast. Flavor is similarly complex, in many ways reminiscent of a roastier (and less sour) Rosso e Marrone from Captain Lawrence. Medium bodied, nice tannic acidity, dry and lightly bitter. A perfect pair with the pulled pork at Monks. Given that this was only recently kegged, I’d like to see this make a return after a longer maturation period.

Draft @ Monk’s in Philadelphia. Dark colored beer with a small off white head. Very fruit, herbal beer. Mild tartness, some grapefruit, citrus and wood notes.

Pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma has roasty wine notes...dark fruit and earthy. Flavor is roasty with subtle soury fruits and good earthy oak/wine flavor...cabernet type of flavor coming through with roasty malts. Mouthfeel is light/medium. With a red winey/roasty finish thag has light dry oak.
