3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 orangesol (473) - Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 13, 2013
Review from notes.
A - Pours copper orange with a small half finger head leaving small trails of lace.
S - Sweet nose with some raisins, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla and dulled fruit rind.
T - Taste is similar to the nose in that the sweetness and saison body are the strongest flavors. A bit of fruit comes out as it warms up. Sweet, dry finish.
M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, sweet feel with a bit of booze coming thru as it warms up.
O - Tastes just like a quad with a saison core helping to bring it all together. A very interesting beer. The booze is a little stronger than I would like but it is still a solid beer.

Pours a hazy brownish amber with a large foamy tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, spicy yeast character. Flavor is sweet dark fruits, caramel, toffee, nuts and spicy yeast notes. For 13% the ABV doesn’t punch you in the face, however this one is a bit on the sweet side, a little bit cloying. Not unexpected for a 13% beer. Happy the alcohol wasn’t over the top.

MEtallic notes, cardbord, yeast dominant. Not sure what they were going for here.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (7114) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 9, 2012
Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Great name and did a double take seeing it was a saison. Medium brown colured bottle that yields a lot of lace. Spicy, but yeasty above all.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Tinco (434) - Linköping, SWEDEN - DEC 7, 2012
Cloudy brown. Nice brown head. Taste is sweet, raisins, dark fruits caramel sugars. Little alcohol. Aroma is dark fruits and rum soaked raisins. This was way more complex than my tasting notes describe now that I look back at it. A very interesting and well crafted beer!

Big thanks to JW for sharing a growler of this at Craft Ale House’s Thursday Social Club gathering. Poured turbid and thick ruby-rust colored with minimal head. Complex nose of figgy fruit, yeasty esters, funk. Tasted complex also, with a minimum of carbonation, a big Grand Cru level of fruit flavors and complexity, and a smooth finish. This may not be a Trappist ale, but I call it Westy 12 Junior. What an accomplishment!

Poured a muddy brown color with a very thin beige head. Aroma of raisins, figs, caramel, candy syrup, and faint alcohol. Flavor is sweet and sticky, similar to a Belgian dubbel in my opinion. The saison yeast certainly adds an interesting touch. The 13% ABV is well hidden.

Growler pour. Pours a slightly cloudy deep amber-brown with moderate sized tan head that quickly recedes. Nose is a boozy raisin, Belgian candy sugar, and some spice. Syrupy mouthfeel, sweet caramel, raisin, maple syrup, spicy yeast, a little funk, with a warm alcohol finish. Worth the wait.

On tap at Tired Hands. My 100th rated saison and its a big one. Cloudy brown with a beige skin. Nose is caramel, yeast and raisins; subtle. Medium body with a soft tingle. Taste is caramel, banana, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon stick and sherry. A bit like a holiday ale without the bitter spice residue. Easy drinking; hiding the alcohol unlike any brew i’ve tried. Deceptive and delicious.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 dagimp (602) - Philly, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 21, 2012
On tap at the brewpub. Poured into flute. Pours a raisin brown. Maybe an inch of white head and Zero lacing. Aroma is sweet with brown sugar and Belgian yeast. Mouthfeel is oily slick and as thick as you'd expect. There's a nice amount of carbonation to balance it out though. Taste is very deep and sweet. Surprisingly there is no alcohol flavor but there is a nice warmth throughout. Tastes of raisins, yeast, maple syrup, vanilla and chestnut. Real treat. Alcohol hits you after a while. I really liked this beer. Lots of flavor and subtleties. Great to sip and share with friends when it's cold out.
