4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is not my 7k rating, Alvinne Mano Negra is. Cask condition handpull at The County Hotel, JDW, Ashford. I haven’t had this in about 8 years, but i remember it being fantastic at The Mogul in Dover, so I was coming to the pub every day for a week hoping that the Available Soon sign would disappear and I could have this again. Black with ruby edges, lasting mid beige head. Some choc on the aroma, some dark fruits. Full in mouth, good juicy, malty balance in the mouth. God it’s brilliant, I love this. Choc and black cherry and a bit like a choc sponge in a glass. Fantastic and lives up to my long long memory of this great beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask conditioned at The Turf Tavern, Oxford. Dark brown, red with white head. Phew this is a tricky one to place, it is roasty, sweet and hoppy all at the same time, a cross over mild to bitter, but a very good one. The hops stand out with a grapefruit tartness and lemon peel and this is over a hint of charcoal and toast. A lovely beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cask at the Pembury Tavern, London on 3rd October 2009. Dark ruby, almost black body with thin brown head that dissipates to something very small. Richly flavoursome; hint of coriander in the initial aroma. Strong sharp malts and citric/herby hoppiness combine with a little smoke to provide an exquisite blend of flavours in the main climax of this beer. A long bitter finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask - West Gate Inn (JDW), Canterbury. A dark, ruddy brown beer with a medium frothy beige head; has good staying power and leaves a fair lacing. Juicy orange, summer fruit aromas all over this. Huge resiny, grapefruity bitterness with awesome length. Roasty and burnt malts but full and juicy on the palate with dark fruits beneath. Smooth, soft palate texture, medium body with low carbonation.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask, Ship and Mitre, Liverpool. This really was a pleasant surprise. Deep dark brown, with a decent sized tan head. Nose was roasted malt and dark chocolate with some hops lurking. Flavour was similarly roasty but with a nice level of hoppiness mixed with an unexpected and tasty hit of juicy berry fruit. Great full body and character for a 4.1% beer. A winner.

3.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask @ Freshie Formby. Looks like a dark lager, Wouldn’t have called it mild or porter. Taste was full of tart hoppy bitterness backed with some malt, Very typical of the beers from this excellent brewery, which also brew the house bitter & mild for the Freshie. I really enjoyed this beer.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell.A lovely mild. Brownish-black in colour with a thin beige head leaving elegant lacing; strong aroma of chocolate malts; straightforward rich roasted malt flavour - and lots of it - then a sharply bitter finish.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask @ the Star Inn Crowlas. Lives up to its name, is black with a tan head. Looks enticing. Aroma is very mild with asphalt, smells good but too subdued. Silky palate and medium body. Excellent flavors, chocolate malt toastiness. Really liked this one.
