Beershine (5195) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - OCT 13, 2007
UPDATED: FEB 5, 2008 A decent attempt at a bitter, with a quaffable character and good balance. Some typical features of bitters are there: the copper color, the carmel nose and body, and the fine hint of hops that lingers in the aftertaste.

Re-rate Feb 08: Pours copper color with nice thick solid lacing. No nose, when I finally coax something it smells like old dirty socks. Mouthfeel is soft. Strange flavor profile: the hops aren’t assertive enough to cover the mildewy malt taste and yeast is detectable. I know there is a good beer hiding in here somewhere. Its character floats to the surface like a half-dead fish.

Has a definite creamy almost soapy aroma. This is a bit indistinct but has some malt and is quite smooth. Unfortunately, some of the soapy flavors come through at the end.

Draught at Titanic on January 21, 2012
Sort of hazy amber color, white head. Malty, bread, cream taste. A bit flat and bitter aftertaste. Moussy mouthfeel, medium bitterness. Sort of sweet scent.
Standard bitter, though could perhaps do with a less ABV, so you could session it even more.

Not awful. This certainly does not taste like a bitter one would get in the UK, but it is indeed drinkable. Not much of a nose, but there shouldnt be too much of one. Tasted like fugles hops. A little grassy / bitter.

On draft @ Titanic. Pours slightly hazy yellow-orange with a receding, soapy white head. Nose is buttery and slightly biscuity malt with background hops. Flavor is similar with biscuity malt, background citrus hops, and miscellaneous bitterness. Light to medium-bodied ale that finishes with lingering bitterness. Interesting take on the style.

Considering the fact that I am not a big fan of the style, this beer fared better than I thought. Hazy amber colored beer with a small off-white head. Faint dirty water smells. I thought I was going to hate the taste but this was where I was surprised: it is actually sweeter caramel taste than the putrid, bitter taste in most beers of this style. A tiny bit of herbal hops too. Still not getting it again though.

On draught at the brewpub in Coral Gables, FL. Pours a clear copper colored brew with an off-white head that slowly dissipates. Aroma of roasted bready malts, a hint of fruit, some light citrus and a touch of tart apple. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of caramel malt, a hint of dry rye, some citrus and tart fruit. Finish is semi-dry with a lingering tart malt aftertaste.
