Draught at the brewpub. Black, creamy beige head. Licorice and coffee aroma. Dry and very roasty with notes of ouzo. Velvetty finish. An enjoyable, straight forward stout.

Dark brown. Thin head. Light nutty aroma with hints of coffee. Sweet, with some vietnamese coffee notes...almost a whipped cream sweetness.

on nitro-pours a creamy tan head and black color with red tint. Aroma is faint oatmeal, chocolate. Taste is oatmeal, chocolate-dark malt. Slight licorice, coffee, roasty. Medium body. Minimum carbonation.

Draft sampler at Titanic. Black pour with a small creamy light brown head that lasted. Solid toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a thin texture. Solid toasted coffee malt flavor with a smooth average finish.

Nitro... Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, tan head. Never ending retention. Delicate flavors and aromas of chocolate, vanilla and light coffee. Tangy. Thin, watery mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Watery finish. Tasty, but everything seems a bit dumbed down from the nitro format. Take it off nitro and there’s real potential here. Pretty darn good anyway!

Tap. Nice dark brown with a big foamy tan head. At first glance this seems to be a winner. Well it goes downhill from there. Aroma is fair with roasted malts, milk chocolate and maybe a hint of coffee. Flavor is not what I would have expected. Roasty, thin, fruity and really not that stout like. Points for looks. Not a lot for taste.

Enjoyed on nitro at the brewpub. Roasty and it gives a coffee aroma, and above-average mouthfeel as expected. Black with dark brown head, looks good. I didn’t appreciate the taste and mouthfeel so much so those elements did not work for me.

My Bottom Line:
Vanilla cream sinks into a coffee roastiness as hop bitterness balances out the back end. Even the nitro feed cannot detract from the fact that there is substance within which should satisfy those looking for a typical, well-brewed stout..
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A nitroed head sits atop the near-opaque black.
-Grapey fruitiness functions amicably with the dark malts.
-The nose contains some lactic notes.
-Hop bitterness and roastiness coalesce.
On tap at the brewpub.

Draught at Titanic on January 21, 2012
Close to black color, some red in there, light brown head. Sweet, malty, fruity scent. Malty, coffee, mild taste. Roasted aftertaste. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, medium bitterness.
For my taste the best beer I had this night, highly drinkable and something I had a pint of after the sampling.

Pours deep dark brown with mocha head. The aroma is roasted malts, a hint of vanilla, some faint earthiness and chocolate. The taste has a nice creaminess bringing in notes of dark roasted malts, earthiness, some chocolate and some mild astringency and a tannin like twang. Maybe that twang is just a bit of hops. Very roasty and good.
