Cask @ Back of Beyond. Slightly cloudy, mid - brown. Caramel, immediately overtaken by bitterness, which then doesnít go away. Not what I was expecting, but good. Wonít want another one immediately, though.

Clear amber beer, tidy off white head. Crispy palate, minerals. Fair amount of malt with a whisper of toffee. Malt cream. Suppressed citrus provides a modicum of balance but this a malt led beer. Itís the freshness and creamy malt that wins the day!

Swift 1/2 at the Tilley Stone Gateshead. Deep red- brown, with a dense off-white head. Roast malt sweetness, with a flavour from 1970ís sweetshop that has been bugging me since last night, so Iím going to say pear drops and rhubarb and custard: just a hint, mind. Lovely silky mouthfeel, and a generous bitter finish. One of the best premium bitters Iíve had in a long while. Hope to try a pint or two.
