Cask. Brewed using Roast Barley and Maris Otter Pale Malt which give a huge amount of rich body to the beer and a generous amount of English North down hops to create a bitter edge, the sweetness comes from the addition of Chocolate and Madagascan Vanilla

Cask at The Waterhouse JDW, Manchester. Deep brown with thin tan head. Chocolate and vanilla very strong in aroma and taste. Some roasted malt and subtle fruit. Too sweet and one dimensional.

Cask at Craft Beer Co. Black, small bubbly tan head with thick lacing. Aroma has lots of vanilla essence. Body is medium to light, light carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is vegetal…yes, vanilla but not in an overly pleasant way. It’s quite astringent and thin tasting. Below average.

500 ml clear bottle, probably from Voldby Købmandsgaard. ABV is 4.5%. BB date 03 2013. Some sediment in the bottle. Very dark brown colour, low beige head. Aroma of mild coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Light bodied and fairly refreshing. The flavour is not very sweet, again with notes of mild coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Some bittering hops (Northdown) in the finish.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Bow Bar. Appearance - opaque black with just the slightest orange chink in the bottom of the glass. Nose - cocoa and liquorice with a chocolate biscuit thing lingering in the background. Taste - sorry but I get cardboard. Then some malt creeping through but it’s like a corked wine. Palate - light to medium bodied with a dry texture and a long dry finish. Overall - this is from a fine ale pub so the fault must be with the beer not good.

Bottle as part of a gift pack from The Royal Exchange, Stone. Pours completely black with a thin, off white head. Aroma is obviously chocolate and vanilla, but picked up a hint of coffee and treacle to boot. Taste is again chocolate, the vanilla waits until the aftertaste to appear however. Picked up malt on the backbone too; very sweet for a stout but it works. Slightly oily mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Moreish, but couldnt drink too much.

Cask in the Admiral Benbow, Shrewsbury. Very deep ruby with a tan head. Sweet at first with plenty of chocolate and vanilla coming through. Finish is more bitter and a little earthy. A little too rich, but good.

vanilla pods and stout don’t mix this beer is garbage, stout should not be sickly sweet and taste of a poor custard

Cask at the Birmingham Beer Festival 2013. Before I say anything else... let me say this was GOOD! Poured a clear dark brown with a bubbly light tan head. The aroma is unsurprisingly chocolate and vanilla with some roasted malt. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a weak bodied slightly watery palate and weak bitter finish. This beer delivers up front and it’s oh so good but needs more in the body and a longer finish.

Pleasantly surprised by this, not sure what was expecting but it wasn’t,t this. There is a very slight sweetness to it but works well.
