Cask & bottled; Regular.

Brewed using Roast Barley and Maris Otter Pale Malt which give a huge amount of rich body to the beer and a generous amount of English North down hops to create a bitter edge, the sweetness comes from the addition of Chocolate and Madagascan Vanilla

Direct from the barrel. The vanilla and chocolate is fragrantly evident. Pours expresso black with bubbly head but no lace. A rich mouthful with the vanilla accenting the sweetness of the roasted malt. The chocolate lurks. There is a bitterness left on the palate but this is exactly what it says - chocolate & vanilla. A change rather than a habit. I suspect it could do wonders on draft at a care home that needed to cure overcrowding. A kindness.

Smooth, sweet, tasty. My first ’love at first sip’ brew. Definite chocolate and vanilla aroma and taste. Not easy to find on tap or in stores, however.

Cask at The Blacksmith’s Arms, St Albans on 29 Sep 2012. Poured black, with a dense tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, vanilla pods and dark malt. Fairly full mouth feel. Some roast flavours, mixed with cocoa and chocolate cake. Finish was cappuccino, dates and burnt malt.

Cask at The Merchants, Rugby 11/10/14. this is definatley one of my favourite beers, and with the ever excellent Merchants serving it it did not fail to meet up to expectations. Jet Back with a Beige Head, Aroma of Chocolate and Vanilla, sweet on the palate. Lush.

wow! what a small does exactly what it says on the tin!! Pitch black with tan lacing.. very very very bitter dark chocolate flavour moving onto a nice smooth vanilla aftertaste, its nearly that bitter that i nearly gave up but i persevered and this is a very decent pint indeed.

Cask at Craft Beer Co. Black, small bubbly tan head with thick lacing. Aroma has lots of vanilla essence. Body is medium to light, light carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is vegetal…yes, vanilla but not in an overly pleasant way. It’s quite astringent and thin tasting. Below average.
