COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask, Special;
This special brew, for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival, is something a little different: a beer using the ingredients designed to create the characteristics of a traditional porter, yet light in colour. The result is a golden beer, with a robust sweetness balanced by swathes of American hops, giving a smooth and powerful flavour, with a crisp finish. Hops used: Cascade, Northdown, Yakima Galena

Cask at The Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 6 Nov 2012. Poured a lightly hazy golden colour, with a dense white head. Aroma of big malt, vanilla and golden syrup. Some flowery hop flavours, with bready malt and treacle. Finish was peal, mango and toasted malt.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol, November 2012. Golden coloured, with a lacy white head. Sweet, tangerine fruit, with some vanilla and roasted malts, leading to dryish finish with a trace of fag ash. Good.

Strange to drink a golden ale with a thick head but tastes like a porter. Has a hopped character.

Penderels Oak, Holborn 1 Nov 12. JDW Festivaløl. Lys gylden. Litt uklar. Nesten ikke skum. Beskjeden fruktaroma. Smaken er syrlig frukt. Tørr syrlig ettersmak. Skjønner ikke hva porternavnet har her å gjøre. Forsøk på å lage en ny stil?

Cask at the George, Croydon. Light hazy gold pour with a white head. Citrus, malt and vanilla nose. Grapefruit, pear and vanilla flavour. Light bitter finish.

DruncanVeasey (7285) - NUNEATON, Top 22, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - NOV 14, 2012
Cask handpull, The Larry (JDW), Nuneaton, 13/11/12. Solid, rounded, lemon-zested tang. Orange peel and pepper over biscuit crumbs. Hints of Sorachi-like old shrivelled tangerines and anise. Grass and herbs in the blender. Good tangy, husky, perfumed but bitter linger. Thick-collared gold draped with milky lace. Ripe tang of satsuma jelly, perfumed coriander on nose. Bit heavy on the perfume but hard to leave alone..

Hazy golden colour with an off white head that leaves a fine lacing. Medium to light body. Moderate sweetness. Mild hoppy and light fruity aroma. Grain, light citric and some fuity and grassy notes. Low carbonation. A bit rare to call it porter.
[On handpull at The West Kirk JDW in Ayr, Scotland]

Oct 2012 draught Wetherspoons. Weird - golden colour with porter-like flavour. Smokey, vegetable flavour. Didn’t like it that much.

Oct/Nov 2012. JDW, Brighton. Pale thin gold. Citric rush - fresh, clean, and invigorating. Very tasty. Very moreish. Lovely.

Cask at the Counting House in Glasgow. Clear blond with a small foamy head. The aroma is apricot, caramel and early on there was some medicinal, eucalyptus like notes. The taste is hoppy with a quite dry finish.
