sm89walt (167), Norwich and Canterbury, Norfolk, England Apr 9, 2008 Cask - Wetherspoons. Dark, chocolatey brown colour with red tints, tan head. Fruity sweet aromas with chocolate and coffee notes. Roasted malt flavours with a slight fruitiness and an apparent tobacco taste. A bit of roasted chocolate as well and a dry bitter finish. Quite quaffable.
bobinlondon (207), Harrow, Greater London, England Jul 12, 2008 Handpulled cask at JDW Hatch End, Harrow. A black coloured beer with a tan head and lacing. The aroma is roasty with caramel and chocolate notes also. The taste has coffee and some sweet notes. Tasty and moreish.
Ethereal (723), London, Greater London, England Jun 27, 2008 Cask, JDW, 4th April 2008. Standard dark brown porter appearance. Aroma and flavour both boast ashy smokiness and a dark malt sweetness. Quite light in the mouth given the strength. SilkTork (3793), Rochester, Kent, England May 4, 2008 JDW, Rochester. Slight soapy chocolate flavoured beer with a medium roasty bitterness. Not impressive. Mes_and_Sim (3927), London, Greater London, England May 1, 2008 A Sim rate (cask at the Gatehouse): Sweetly nutty, caramel and delightfully porter aroma. I could sniff this all day. Translucent with a brownish red tint. It looks as good as it smells. Hazelnut initial hit like the hazelnut coffee we used to brew at CyberCafe NYC. Coffee and chocolate follows with a nicely-roasted finish. I had to get another one. Really, really enjoyed it! Fin (2005), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Apr 29, 2008 Cask at the Exchange, JDW, Banbury, Oxon 28-04-08 Dark brown with beige head, chocolate, malt and hops all gather on quite a decent aroma. Taste is more of the same, but backed up with a bit of fruitiness as well, finishes dry, really quite decent and at £1.09 a pint staggeringly good value.
