Some fruit aroma. Mid brown amber and fruity with a slightly sour bitter and grainy malt finish. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Aug 13, 2009 (Cask at Swan, Liverpool, 18 July 2009) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of dried fruit and earthy hops. Fruity, malty taste with citrus, orange peel and generous doses of earthy hops. Medium body, balanced sweetness. Fairly bitter, lasting finish. Very nice beer. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Jul 2, 2009 Cask at Cloisters ... copper ... creamy tan head ... soft chocolate and quite malty nose ... big chocolate front with a odd earthy bitter finnish ... little woodyness ... but great depth and balance ... a real winner. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Jun 24, 2009 Cask handpull at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool. Ever since having the Black Ice I’ve always had a soft spot for this brewery. Mid chestnut in colour, lasting thin dark beige head. Great looking beer. After 3 bottles of German lager, this is great. A malty best bitter, full in mouth and then this burst of hedgerow green earthy hop. So drinkable it’s untrue. Lacing on the glass to die for. The peppery/nettle/green hawthorn leaf hop on the finish is outstanding. It’s just one of the best, best bitter I’ve had. Bursting with malt and red fruits and hedgerow hops. Outstanding. maeib (4677), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Oct 8, 2008 Cask conditioned - handpump - Criterion, Leicester. An amber coloured beer with a whitish head and lacing. The aroma has some tropical fruit notes, whilst the taste has some interesting fruity character. I couldn’t quite pin it down but it may have been kiwi? Good and quite bitter.
