This beer is dark strong and well rounded; the richness of such a rotund beer is brought to an even keel by the late addition of Goldings hops and natural plum flavouring. Take the opportunity and go for the low hanging fruit, this sumptuous beer really is a plum!

Botella. Amber brown like colour. Quite sweet dark fruity plum candy like bit aroma with some roastiness under all that sweetness. Good mouthfeel. Quite sweet flavour, dark fruity plum roasty like, some chocolate too. Rather too sweet.

A dark reddish brown coloured beer with a frothy but weak pinkish white head. A potent fruity aroma, definite plum element and slightly spicy. Dry mouthfeel. The taste reflects the aroma, a strong plum fruit flavour, thus is underpinned by a rich nutty malt taste, this in turn is followed by a mild bitterness towards the end. The finish is bitter and full of plum flavour. Bottle from Lidl, Fakenham.

Live rating of a 500 ml bottle from Lidl, served cellar cool in a pint sleeve. Pours deep clear brown with a tan head. First aroma I caught was old fashioned sarsaparilla tablets and juicy fruit gum. Flavour took me back to the long retired Cainís raisin beer, but if Iím honest, the fruitiness in this beer is a bit muted and synthetic, and the hop bitterness slightly jarring. Also, the texture is a bit wattery and thin. "Natural plum flavouring"... hmmm. A low overall score, but it would be nice if they tried again.

500ml: A vibrant nose with rich plum , roast . deep purple that morphs into brown and a decent khaki head : palate is tangy , rich and oily. the plum notes are rich and not as generic as I assumed. some coffee roast , dry bittersweet too. not gross at all considering what some fruit porters are like. nice .

Bottle, from Lidl. Deep red brown, thin but lasting off white head and gentle condition. initial sweet fruity plumminess in the nose is joined by a roasted barley note, some hints of chocolate and a tangy earthiness as it warms, in the mouth it is full and sweet briefly before a fruit skin bitterness takes over and becomes puckeringly dominant, leaving the lips dry and oily, finish is all plummy fruit and a lingering dry bitterness from fruit skin and hops.

Cask. Pours ruby with tan head. A full-throttled fruity aroma and the taste doesnít disappoint. Stewed plums, toasted malts maybe some mild almond pastry. Given the weighty ingredients, the body is medium to full with a relatively clean finish. Well rounded indeed and deserving its accolades. Seek it out.

Sampled from the cask at the Bree Louise near Euston. Dark ruby going on black with a thin head. Mild roasted notes with a big fruity aroma and massively fruity taste. Some roasted malt taste and plenty of stewed plums. Mild bitterness from the hops. The whole thing works very well; not too sweet, but with a great fruity taste. Iím not a huge fan of fruit beer, but this is one of the best I have tasted. An original beer that would be very popular if it was more widely available.
