4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A bottle trade sample. Aroma features dark fruit, plums and figs, a hint of ash and some nice light fruity hops.
In the mouth the beer is complex with more dark fruit, dry roast grain, espresso, dark cocoa, and a roasty bitter finish. Proper challenging session stout.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
500ml bottle shared in the corporate hospitality area @ GBBF 16, as one of the disappointingly few exclusive bottled beers there. Pours black, thin ring of -off-white head. Taste is rather thin, a touch dry with a valiant hint of roast on the finish. Next.

On draught at the Nags Head in Reading a year or so ago. Black with a light bubbly brown head. Nice and roasted stout, with a dark malt body and a chocolate, albeit not entirely clean finish. A reasonable stout.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Home Bargains. This was being sold around the £1 mark. Great value as it's a really good stout. Sweet then a bitter finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask at the Crosse Keys, London EC3. Plus black with a small off white head, leaving good lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt and mocha. Sweetness is almost that of a sweet stout, with a light bitterness. Velvet smooth texture, body is rather light, soft carbonation. Light roasting to sweet finish. A good beer.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap. Earthy roasted malt aroma. Classic black with cram top. Served from the craft corner so in my view over-chilled. This may explain why the flavours were more muted. Bready rather than biscuity with the barley outweighing the hops on the first taste. Some Smokey undertones and one can detect where the vanilla stout hails from. While more to my taste than most Guinness served this may keep me in the mild porter camp.
