Cask: Special - JDW Spring Festival 2010.
Ingredients: Pale and Crystal malt; Ahtanum and Tomahawk hops.
This is a ’Red Indian pale ale’ - since Titanic set sail for the New World, not the Indian sub-continent. It celebrates the American-style IPA and so has a powerful, bitter hop flavour, with the use of dark crystal malt giving this pale beer a hint of red.

Cask at Argyll Arms. Pours light amber with a soft white head. Grassy hop aroma. Wonderfully bitter flavor with earth and pine, preceded by an understated caramel malt presence. Medium in body with fine carbonation. Has a long grass and earth bitter finish. Very good.

Cask handpull at Samuel Peto, JDW, Folkestone. Copper colour, thin beige head. Quite hoppy yes, very hoppy for a UK beer. I like the hops plus there is some sweetish toffee too. Really good earthy hop on finish

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber with white head. Light and fruity beer with quite a heavy sweetness. Raisins and sultanas with a strawberry bubblegum note, Just a little too flabby, but still a very drinkable beer.

Cask conditioned gravity dispense Eastgate Northampton. A golden beer with an off-white loose head. A sweetish citrus aroma; maybe oranges leads to a citrus tingle in the mouth. Good body and good depth of hoppy flavours. Good bitterness and very tasty. Excellent hop melange.

The Felix Holt, Nuneaton. Bright dusty gold with a slim nitro-like smother of head. Punching fresh breakfast juice hop with grapefruit to the fore, some deep husky nut reinforcement, dabs of vanilla totally out-muscled by alpha soapiness. Good sweaty mandarin hops on the nose. Slick and filmy, good fresh character with balance, tipping heavily in favour of The Hop. I like it. Beer of the Festival so far for me.
