Draft on tap at The Old Fashioned (Madison, WI). I love me some Titletown rates. Pours a deep blackish ruby hue, good haziness in the body but not opaque. Ruby glow shows dulled light on the bottom and edges. A frothy tannish head atop stays as a filmy layer, sticks around and laces ok. Aromas show gentle toastiness, biscuit and cocoa. Some toffee, gentle sweetness, mellow roast, faint kiss of dried fruit. Nice, neutral, and quite appealing. Initial is medium bodied, a bit creamy off the bat with cocoa and sweeter chocolate elements dancing in and out. Biscuits, gentle toast and caramel. Mellow roastiness starts to kick. Middle is toasty, biscuity, a bit creamy still. Quite drinkable, smooth as it goes down. Chocolate, bit of toffee. Not overly sweet but a firm body sits within. Some roastiness, bakers chocolate, and more sweet chocolate elements as we move on. Backend is toasty and biscuity, gentle roast and carmelized elements are distinct as we finish up with a more significant dry toasty feel, bit of creamy sweetness, caramel and cocoa. Really put together quite well. Finish is lingering cocoa, a touch of Tootsie roll, dry gentle roast and coffee grounds, bakers chocolate. Really nice Schwartz with a distinct flow, good rich flavors, creamy front end that moves to a more toasty and dry back. Nicely done here. Nose a touch subtle but I think that’s how it should be.

Had a sample as part of the epic 14-beer sample flight at the brewpub. I don’t normally like schwarzbier, but this was very good. It didn’t have much of what I don’t like (smoke), and was fruitier than average (they were low on time, so they fermented it as an ale). Refreshing.

Black color, brown head. Sweet, pop-corn scent. Sweet, malty taste. Medium mouthfeel, low bitterness.

Light roasty, slight hop bitterness. Thin but not too thin. Once it warms a bit chocolate comes thru. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

TAP at Titletown. Pour is black. Aroma of subtle coffee, chocolate, and malt. Taste is a bit sweet. Medium body. One of the better beers on their line-up.

A dark shwartz clone. Tanish white head with a thick coffee and roastie taste. A tinge of alcohol.

Very clever name for this tasty schwarzbier! Pours a deep black and has a nice roasty aroma and flavor to it.

On tap at the Old Fashioned. Dark brown/black. Light coffee/roasted malt, soft Munich-type malts, brown sugar, and toffee. Flavor is a slightly acidic roast-type flavor that doesn’t round out well. Fairly light on the palate with trailing mild roast finish.

On tap at the Malthouse here in Madison...the color was dark brown, almost black/brown. The head was off white and reduced rather quickly to a ring and film, but left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was roasted coffee and some chocolate notes too a lesser degree. The flavor was a smooth malt, a bit of sweetness, and mild bitterness coupled with a moderate roasty dry finish.
