Light roasty, slight hop bitterness. Thin but not too thin. Once it warms a bit chocolate comes thru. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2009 On tap at the Titletown brewpub, this beer pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thick, off-white head that dissolves slowly. Aroma of thick molasses, dark chocolate and toffee. Taste is that of toasted dark malt, a little lactic acidy with some flowery hop flavor. Finish is slightly bitter and a touch of tartness. As Mel Brooks may be proud to see as it was written on the brewery menu chalkboard, "May the Schawrz be with you."

The flavor has appears to be slightly different each year.

2007: Toasted dark malt with some tart berry character

2008: Toasted dark malt with some dry hop and smoked character

2009: Toasted dark malt with some chocolate and a very smooth finish

An excellent summer time brew. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a reddish hue. Head was large and creamy. Aroma was noticeably nutty. Taste was soft and creamy with hints of milk chocolate and almonds.

Another nice beer. Dark pour with light head. Nose of chocolate, coffee and toasty goodness. Flavor is crisp, light and had good roasted character.

Thirsty Troll Beer Fest. Pour is deep brown with an off-white head. Aroma shows notes of chocolate and moderately roasted coffee beans. Flavor shows sweet caramel with more roasted presence and a touch of earthy hops. Pretty much no smoke to be found. As it warms there seems to be a hint of smoke, but it’s so faint that I could be imagining it. This was served way too cold and doesn’t much remind me of a schwarz, more like a thin porter.

On tap at the Old Fashioned. Dark brown/black. Light coffee/roasted malt, soft Munich-type malts, brown sugar, and toffee. Flavor is a slightly acidic roast-type flavor that doesn’t round out well. Fairly light on the palate with trailing mild roast finish.
