Commercial Description:
Railyard Ale is crafted in the Altbier style which is one of the few ales that originate from Germany. Unlike the Dusseldorf style, this beer is crafted in the Northern German tradition which results in a more balanced flavor due to a decreased hop emphasis. This garnet colored brew possesses a medium body with a significant toasty malt presence. As is traditional, only German Spalter Spalt hops are used to impart a distinctly German hop character.

Another fantastic beer from Titletown. Pours a dark red colour with a slightly white medium sized head. Astringent, well balanced, nice acidic taste, plenty of hops with a slight carmel flavor. It is pleasent and smooth all around.

Draft at the brewpub. Curiously, I smelled light chocolate and a hint of watered down coffee. Poured a clear medium brown color with an off white head. Light bodied and slightly sweet with subdued flavors of roasty malt, nuts, and milk chocolate. Strange for an altbier, but there you go.

Pours an amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is caramel malts with some hoppiness. Taste is sweet and caramel, with a dark fruit or smoked/wood backend. Seems a little too malty and rich for my tastes.

On tap at the brewpub on 6/24/07: Clear dark copper mahogany color with a thin, wispy-lacing off-white head. Sweet caramel malty nose has a lightly earthy piny hoppiness. Body starts with a sweet caramely German maltiness balanced with good noble hoppiness toward a smooth finish. A nice Altbier.

Honey malts on the nose. Pours light blonde. Smooth and malty, only slightly crisp. Not bad, but a little weak.
