UPDATED: JAN 21, 2013 Bottle @ Il pretesto. It pours hazy orange with a good white head on top. Aroma is orange/fruity and baltic berries. Taste is bitter and sour due by berries and hops. Very good ipa with an interesting fruity sourness.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Medium, bit fluffy yellow-cream head over totally hazy orange beer. Nose is mainly fruity-hoppy, meaning: aromas from fruity aromahops. Dry, citrus, white grapes. Bit yeasty as well. Very bitter, dry, on the verge of astringent; Fruity notes, just not-sweet; again maily citrus. Tad of solvent. Dry-out effect, medium bodied, quite slick, well-carbonated. More the character of an (ultra)dry IPA, than that of a fruitbeer. No tart acidity from the seabuckthorn, not game-piney notes from the juniper. But rather good!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught at Mikkeller Bar. Hazy orange liquid with small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, berries, light caramel and bread. Taste is dry and high bitter with notes of tropical fruit, berries and some minerals. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Nice but a bit too bitter. Not really balanced, even for an IPA.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a thick milky orange colour with a small short lasting white head. Aroma is lovely west coast ipa; juicy citrus fruits with a little pine. Tastes as expected, more citrus, with some other subtle notes (sea buckthorn?) and big bitterness throughout. Quite an intense ipa, verging on a sipper due to its thick body and bitterness, but excellent nonetheless.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
33 cl. bottle split @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. An American style IPA brewed with sea buckthorn and juniper berries, playing in on the current Danish culinary fascination with foraging & the booming Baltic market for craft beer. Rather curious about this because of the sea buckthorn which I have never tasted but I am a) always greatly interested in beers with unusual ingredients & b) Cantillon once made a bear with sea buckthorn. It took me a while to figure out what precisely the cover was supposed to portray, from a distance I initially thought that it was supposed to be an art-deco-esque image of thorn paper but up-close it is a clearly birch tree, a highly culturally ingrained & common + very beautiful tree, common in that part of Europe. It pours a bright opaque cartoon / children vitamins orange, actually the colour strongly reminds me of persimmon’s, the head doesn’t stick around for long, its white and strongly resembles dishwashing liquid foam in on washing water. The smell is very sweet and strongly fruity, soft tangerines, lots of nectar, flowers, fruitiest American hops, soft mango & light exotic fruits. Taste is sweet apricot, tangerine & mango juice blended with sweet children’s aspirin & vitamins, orange flavoured, slight tang, very “other” / new fruits for me, must be the sea buckthorn, I though it was going to be a slight, maybe it is there, maybe it isn’t type of addition but this is hugely in your face, totally dominating, very special. I can totally see people getting turned off by this, this tastes like something that Freigheist would make, if you know what that means. Also picking up lemon peel and flowers in here, finish carries some floral bitterness but quite light with that aspirin / vitamin tang, some sweet candy also in the back and light herbs. Feels fuller and flatter body-wise. Seriously special stuff, took some getting in, that is one hell of a particular fruit but proof that fruit beers can be challenging and interesting and not just terrible alcopop’s where you can taste the artificial sweeteners. Fruit beers is unquestionably a style that I would like craft brewers to explore further.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy opaque orangey golden with hardly any head. Fresh citrusy hops with a juicy fruitiness. Medium body, a thick juicy spicy hoppiness, quite some yeast, Ends very, very bitter. Odd but interesting - there’s a late chili-like bite. 271212
