3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (7363) - Antwerpen, - AUG 4, 2012UPDATED: AUG 23, 2012 Huge, rusty-brown head, dense, over opaque brown beer; rings of lace. Roasted, cigarette ashes, burnt paper. Roasted/burnt, in a really outspoken way. Ink, bitter-ish leaves. Warming up somewhat, black coffee and a peppery impression. Thick, languid feel, some alcohol. Very burnt, very black, very unidimensional. Quite uninteresting. WAS: 6/4/7/3/13 3.3/5
Second try Good amber/tan head, rather dense, over jet-black beer. Black chocolated with a pinch of black coffee, malt wafers, café noir cookies; mocha and tobacco warming up. Burnt, bitter, coffee and real black chocolate. Oats also more prominent than at the first try. Well-bodied, viscous. Still a bit unidimensional, but I like it definitely better, now. I somehow missed some complexity, especially in the nose.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 zenkis (300) - Ogre, LATVIA - MAY 13, 2013
355ml bottle.
At the beginning there is rich, intense aroma of aromatic hopping plus roasted and sweet malt notes. Later it becomes more sugary, more roasted, chocolate tones comes out more intense, some alcohol too. Pours black with brown medium head, minimal lacing. Taste is dominant roast bitter, then sweet malt profile, medium strong, spicy mouthfeel. Above medium body, silky texture, long, medium dry roast bitter finish. Interesting balance between silky and robust, like both at the same time. Interesting. Maybe only minus is roast overrun of other aspects. First brew which changed aroma three times, weird.

12/11/13/13/12/12
