I love a good black IPA and this certainly is one. Smokey grapefruit bitterness (if that makes sense) with plenty of coffee thrown in. Strong stuff.

Gift from Marcus. Pours very dark brown with no head. Aroma of dark malt, coffee, and strangely floral perfumes. Full body or nearly. Flavor is dark malt, some odd, and firm, perfume/floral flavors, and hints of coffee. No chocolate that I can discern. And then I can discern. There’s a strange mouth impact that suggests very, very mild wintergreen. This is strange and invigorating flavor profile. I lack the words to describe.Quite pleasing tho.

330 ml bottle @ Haandverkerstuene May 2014. Dark brown, almost black body with a nice, dense brown head. Wonderful aroma with dark, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, lots of citric fruit and grapefruit. Flavor is sweet, dark roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, citric fruit, grapefruit and nice bitterness. Fine body and a long lasting, pleasant aftertaste with sweet roasted malt and fruity bitterhops. Nice one.

Black with stable head. Incredible aroma of coffee, sunflower and citrusy notes coming from hops. When it comes to taste it gest a bit worse as alcohol could be better hidden. The bitterness is high and well balanced with malty background.

12.7 oz bottle. Thanks Bobby D. Black pour. Light tan head with thick bubbles. Smell is euro hops. By that I mean ok. But not exactly fresh, but logistically not really possible to have at the peak of freshness. Taste is hoppy with kind of a dry stout malt base. I know it says coffee on the label, but I’m not convinced they put any in there. Decent? Yes. Top 200 beer? No way.

37.5cl bottle from GCM pours with a nice deep dark body that supports a full firm tall mocha colored head. The aroma offers up chocolate sweetened dark roasted coffee, some earthy chocolate and then mild hoppy notes of pine mixing nicely with dark chocolate. The taste begins smooth and silky as sweet malts and molasses sweetened dark roasted coffee slowly give ground to ever growing chocolate and dark chocolate goodness. To midway it gets more nectar and oily like with fairly intense sweetened coffee and growing pine hop resiny and chocolate infused grapefruit hop bitterness. Around the edges of the experience lurks slivers molasses and toffee. I don’t think I’ve had a somewhat chocolate and coffee forward Black IPA before. This one does the trick. Yet another great offering from this stellar brewery.
