Barrel aged on Chardonnay Barrels. Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.

Words from our label designer Kasper about the label:
The label shows the inner yard of the Copenhagen Police Yard folded out on 4 pictures with a quote and a name merged together. The shitty tree on the neck-wrap stands in contrast to the main labels monumental expression. The police is as fake as the quality of the wood. The label is dedicated to police commander Bjarne.

Amazing black ipa. A real grower. Beautiful roasted smell. Some nice light fruits appear. First taste bitter - tropical fruits - heavy yet light. Easy drinkable. Demands more. The roasted malts settle in an amazing marriage with the fruits. Amazing! ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)

Big warm black beer with a carbonated fluffy tan head. Smells of roasted malts, coffee, fruits, piney grassiness. Big deep bitter taste, full of burnt coffee. Finishes dry and bitter. Would wish for a bit more than the two overwhelming flavours of bitterness and burnt coffee if they weren't both so big and deep and ambitious.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours darkest brown/black with a thick tan head. The nose is bitter-sweet, tangy, white wine, roasted malt, sherbet, cocoa, vanilla and wood. The taste is bitter, rich roast, cocoa, earth, liquorice, coffee, piney, charred wood, booze, oily.action and pithy citrus with a dry finish. Medium-full body and moderate carbonation. Pretty punchy stuff. Good fun though.

Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell during the Peter’s leaving do. Picked up from Etre. Pours deep brown with a dense, frothy beige head. The nose is immense, chock full of burnt wood, pine, dark chocolate and cedar. Medium sweet flavor with dominant charred malt character, some burnt popcorn, bread, grapefruit and orange rind, pine oils. Medium to full bodied with average, massaging carbonation. Finishes with drying burnt wood and ash, some scorched earth, bitter chocolate, some citrus rind. Lingering ashy roast. Pretty punchy, especially on the roast/ash front.

Bottle. Black in color with a frothy tan head. Fairly much of roasted notes in aroma together with some grapefruit, burnt wood and chocolate. More of them chocolatey vibes with some additional citrus and slightly herbal notes in taste. Quite creamy mouthfeel. Notes of citrussy chocolatecake made over campfire in aftertaste, also a bitter twist in the end.
