Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.

Pours a black with a brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark roasted, moderate to heavy hoppy and wood. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, dark roasted, wood. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

There are two kinds of black IPA: the "stouty" roasted ones (known as India Pale Porters) and the just black-colored ones. Black Maria is just in the middle between them. The aroma is intense, grassy, herbal, resiny, spicy but with roasted biting hints. The freshness of a pine wood mixed to the tropical warmth of the chocolate, liquorice and coffee in a very good balance. This beer is so good and To Øl one of my favourite breweries. I just love their beers. P.S. Maybe i used the word "just" too many times. Just forgive me. I’m just an italian guy. My english is so bad.

Pours black with a tan head. Aromas of malty, coffe, pine and hops. Taste is heavier on the malt than the hops, but citrus flavours come through, and the finish is bitter and malty. Doesn’t taste like 8.1%. Really interesting beer.

Cola coloured pour with a big cola style fizzy head, which settles nicely into a tight, dense tan head. Roasty, coffee, pine, citrus aromas. Roasty malty flavour up front, a little coffee and pine, dry finish

On tap. Pours a solid black with lots of lacing. It has a great aroma of coffee, chocolate, piney hops, and a flavor of pine and train up front with a semisweet, malty finish over a medium-heavy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Floral hops on the aroma, even though it poured with a bit frothy tan head. I love how black IPAs give that slightly creamy mouthfeel, but also the bags of fresh hops. A fantastic beer.

Teku glass. Bottle. Pitch black with light brown, tow fingers head. Average lacing. Roasted, smokey and wooden aroma. Taste is definetely roasted, form the middle you can feel heavy bitterness, which quickly dissapears, some tart and ashy notes. In the background some roasted coffee and zesty citrus. Dry, medium to full body, sticku to oily texture. Earthy aftertaste. In general interesting beer something between dry stout and black IPA. From the dry stout you can experiency ashy and dry notes, from black IPA some hoppy nature. Just try it.
