COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.

Black with small tan head. Aroma of citrus and licorice. Sweetish roasted licorice flavour with citrus hops and a good bitterness. The licorice-citrus combo is to the point for the "style"

Belle petite Black ipa de chez toøl. Des notes de café et chocolat ainsi que d’orange et d’agrumes. Une belle texture légèrement huileuse et une bonne longueur en bouche.

This is american pale ale style, but pitch black. It’s also smoky and I would say, there’s some Brett. Aromatic and bitter on the palate. A very well made black IPA and you don’t taste the high alcohol.

Shared with heavy, thanks! Black, slightly amber-tinged. Tan head. Herbal-citrusy aroma, gummy, on top of a correct roasty background. Roast-driven taste, smooth, malty, black chocolate, mild, well integrated lemony, citrusy hops. Superb balance all in all, a genuinely tasty beer. No surprise from this brewery really.

Had this beer couple of days ago and all I remember is it had typical dry roasty and hoppy notes for a heavily hopped stout. I wasn’t super enthusiastic about it but had pleasure to drink it. It’s very rare I write comments days after I actually had the beer. Writing from memory isn’t easy since I had lots of other beers afterwards.

Black colour with a light tan medium sized head with good lacings. Aromas of toasted malts, toasted white bread are upfront with a solid hop profile showing subtle notes of lychee, spruce, dried citrus peel and hints of black pepper. Fine carbonation; somewhat slick, medium-full bodied. Some toast sweetness with light dark chocolate flavours building up a roast hop resinous bitterness. Lasting bit lsick yet mouthwatering finish.

On bottle from Ølbutikken, København. Pitch black color, good offwhite foam. High aroma intensity; hops, roasted, light leather, malt. Full body & high complexity. Good bitterness and balance. Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Hop Leaf at home. Opaque black pour with fine bubbled tan sticky head. Aroma is coffee, licorice, some booze, woodsiness?, fruity hops under it all. Taste is cool somehow, in contrast to some of the warmer overall Black IPAs. Maybe woodsiness, but not in a pine way. Surprisingly light bodied despite boozy and roasty qualities - very dry. Unusual but great Black IPA.

Bottle from a trade. The beer has got a deep black colour with a steady, low head and smooth body. Aroma of roasted hops and coffee. Taste of dark roasted hops, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, woods, pine and mild citrus fruits. Smooth to drink, tasty.

Pitch black, huge tan head. Nice roasty aroma mixed with hops. Taste is maybe not extreme, but it’s very drinkable. Long coffee and fruity finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, creamy texture. Alcohol is nowhere to be found. Very nice BIPA.
