Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.

Black with small tan head. Aroma of citrus and licorice. Sweetish roasted licorice flavour with citrus hops and a good bitterness. The licorice-citrus combo is to the point for the "style"

Bottle from a trade. The beer has got a deep black colour with a steady, low head and smooth body. Aroma of roasted hops and coffee. Taste of dark roasted hops, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, woods, pine and mild citrus fruits. Smooth to drink, tasty.

Pitch black, huge tan head. Nice roasty aroma mixed with hops. Taste is maybe not extreme, but it’s very drinkable. Long coffee and fruity finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, creamy texture. Alcohol is nowhere to be found. Very nice BIPA.

Dark impenetrable brown with red hints in the tips. Very large rocky brown head. A fight between hops and roast in the nose, with interchangeable winner. Heavy bitter. Full body. Fizzy carbonation. Hops: Galaxy, Centennial, Columbus, Cascade

Bottle in the Trembling Madness, York. Pours deep brown, almost black with a cream head. Resinous pine aroma. The taste starts sweet and spicy with lots of pine and lovely roast malt undertones. Pretty awesome.

Bottle from hop hideout, sheffield. Black with nice stodgy tan head. Aroma is piney hops and dark roast coffee. Taste is biting bitterness and a small hum from the alcohol. Slightly prickly and medium body. Nice beer.
