On tap at The Trappist. Pours dark brown with a thick multi-toned tan head and a very strange aroma, consisting of treacle, chocolate, citrus and pine. There is a full-bodied smoked and dark malt flavor with an intensely piney hop finish.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Black pour with a tab head. Nose is nicely sweet from the lactose, but also a nice coffee and chocolate character. Maybe a bit of hop aroma, plenty of roast, and some hints of earth. The flavor is moderately sweet. Good lactose, some hints of caramel, earth, and a subtle bitterness of coffee and roasted malt.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg. Pitch black color. Medium size, creamy brown head. Holds quite nicely. Aromatic hops dominates aroma leaving very few room for others. But flowers, camomille is detectable. Taste is quite different. Roasted malts, spiced with hops, dry milk powder in taste. Artificial milky texture. Dry woody mouthfeel.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 Keg (Pudel Baar, Tallinn)
Sweet nutty cakey aroma, as well as a lovely rich smooth burnt roast. The nuttiness is more like the slightly burnt flaked almonds, glazed of course, you’d get on top of a cake. A little weird in places occasionally. Looks good, basically black, with a tight keggy tan head. Smooth palate, pleasantly crispened by the carbonation. More burnt than the aroma indicated, but not ashy or astringent. Alcohol well in check. Taste mellowed nicely by the residual sweetness. It’s not as lactosey sweet as many othe milk stouts I’ve had, I’m not a bif fan of that. I’m guessing the yeast attenuated the available sugars quite fully, so the lactose just filled in the gap left, and it does that well. Finish mostly a burnt roast, and some twiggy bitterness. Just the occasional weirdness stops this from being a "wow", but this is very solid. To 0l ROCK!

Great roast, and a nice twist of nettle too. Deep roast, lovely and rich. Still just as good. Possibly even less sweet than last time. Worth every point.
