3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black pour with a 1 finger, creamy mocha head that has excellent retention and leaves great lacing. Every sip brings a new cascade of lacing streaking downward from the point where my lip met the glass. Aroma is loaded with roast, chocolate, toast and lactose, then some dark caramel, toffee nuts, earthy and woody notes and a little booziness. Flavor is mocha sweetened with lactose, toffee, roast, a little char, earth, old campfire wood, light earthy notes, and light fruity and floral notes toward the finish. Medium to heavy body, creamy entry, chewy middle, light, blanketing and mildly sharp carbonation, syrupy, but chalky finish. There is a lingering feeling of sharp carbonation on the tongue that is very strange. Good stuff overall, I do dig Lacto Stouts in general and this has lots of components to make it awesome, but just enough throwing it off to make it just "good". Okay, maybe "really good". While I liked this beer quite a bit it is a terrible value. I paid $6.50/355ml (or maybe 330ml?) bottle. There are better stouts to be had for a little more than that price for six times the volume. That assertion doesn’t affect my score, but it is worth noting.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a really dark brown with a medium and sticky light brown head that leaves really nice lacing. Nose is of intense roast, hops and light alcohol. Taste is moderately sweet, way less than I expect from a sweet stout (I must have had the worst of them before). It is also moderately bitter which must help in balancing it all out. Flavors are of dark chocolate and coffee grinds. Pretty intense but never too much. Some moka impressions. Body is full, carbonation somewhat light. Finish is more bitter than sweet but you still get some lactose and some warming alcohol. The intense roasted malt will get tiresome after a while. Not bad at all, pretty different from the standard sweet stout.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
At cellar temperature and into a snifter. Highly charged, it produces up more head than beer. A mammoth plume of fuelled foam, tannish and dense, atop an opaque, muddy black body. Strong note of kelp comes through on the nose as does rusty molasses, twiggy bark and burnt sugar with inklings of cranberries, prunes and sultana, raisins and milk chocolate. Delivers on body; smooth, liqueurish, silky and rounded. Scorched notes dominate. Bitter, savoury fruit and caramelised, burnt sugars dominate the taste with a smoky edge. Sweet, sticky, with an evaporated milk quality coming through. Long culmination of all. Body is the winner, but it is not overly complex at all. Boozy for 7.0% ABV. Easy to drink, but forgettable unfortunately. Not bad!! (33cL, BB 27/11/18, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Tap. Lovely intensive aroma: cacao, vanilla, milk chocolate. Similar in taste: roasted coffee grains, espresso, chocolate, nuts, lactose. Not too sweet, smooth, robust, milky texture. So so tasty - perfect stuff.

Black with a massive frothy light brown/beige head. Aroma of cream, roast malt, smoke, chocolate, coffee, earthy hops. Taste is sweet with a lovely, well balanced bitter finish. Thick oily texture, low carbonation. Really, really good beer.
