3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 andersand (521) - Malmö, SWEDEN - JUN 11, 2012
Black with a small brown head. Toffe loaded aroma with dark chocolate, mild coffe, vanilla and soy sauce. Body is quite thick and vey smooth with intense sugary flavors of soy sauce, toffe and vanilla alongside sharp coffe, salty liqourice and burnt harsh malt. Ends pleasantly sweet with a long aftertaste. Appears about 5% higher abv than it is which drags it down quite a bit.

In bottle at Craig’s. Pours a very dark brown colour with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, bitter chocolate, caramel and alcohol. Similar flavours with mild carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Quite dry with lovely lingering bitter chocolate and filter coffee.
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 20/20 Cybercat (2451) - Georgia, USA - JUN 7, 2012
Rich, smoky aroma has a dominate note of quality coffee and hints of unsweet chocolate and licorice, plus a touch of - anchovy? It pours a deep, rich sable with a thick tan head that leaves generous lacing. Superb flavor has a core of quality roast coffee and notes of chocolate and brown sugar plus hints of licorice and burnt hops. Smooth texture has plenty of body, but lacks fizz. This is a must for Stouties - danged near perfect.

Draft at CBC. Pours black with a beige head. Massive chocolate, roasted aroma with some chocolate and coffee. The coffee comes out more in the flavour along with the other aspects of the aroma and some vanilla. Medium bodied with soft carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. Great beer!

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mike12da (41) - Osaka, JAPAN - JUN 3, 2012
Deep brown/black with a dense tan head, looks mighty nice. Huge aroma, very roasty, smells big, coffee is present but not overwhelming. Thick oily mouthfeel, light carbonation keeps it smooth. Taste is as big as the aroma, initial sweetness and strong roast, rich coffee, although leaning into soy sauce territory, which is not a good thing. Very big and enjoyable.

Geez, I’m hittin on all cylinders tonight; another understated powerhouse. Poured at cellar temperature with a mammoth, tan, fluffy, frothy, thick, creamy, tan head that slowly settled, & with almost total lacing. Color is an opaque brown black. Aroma is malt, coffee, roast, cocoa, weed. Flavor’s like nose, sweet is only slightly more dominant in the sweet/bitter/carbonic tang mix. Also is a little fuit. Body is soft, but cut by perfect carbonation. Finish is like flavor, fairly long and boozy. Yummmm

Bottle at home. Pours jet black with a medium tan head. The aroma is hard roasted malt, coffee, bitter malt, hops, liquorice and light chocolate. The flavour is sweet roasted malty, liquorice, light chocolate and lots of coffee. A good hoppy kick as well. Very nice indeed.
