The great warrior of Gath. The mighty champion of the Philistines. Embedded in ancient folklore and religion. Coming from the World of Old. His size and stature is not human. He is bigger. The armor of Goliat is black. Creamy black lacings. Stands with a towering height. He can grab elements from both earth and heaven. Earthy, roasted, notes from the earth. Warming, pungent, sweet notes from the skies. His heart is beating slowly, almost endlessly slow. This man is thought to be invincible!

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade sugar, flaked oats, hops, gourmet coffee and yeast.

Overwhelmingly intense coffee stout. True espresso in the aftertaste. Well balanced and nice scidity which makes it quite easily drinkable. Hides the 10% very well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Sample from bottle at Nieuwjaarsborrel 2014, thanks for sharing MrHangover! Pours dark brown to black with a medium tanned head. Aroma has lots of coffee, some roasted malts and chocolate. Taste also has lots of coffee, chocolate, some dark fruits, not much roast. Over medium body with a medium carbo. Nice stuff.

Bottle, 9110112 on back label, drunk on 1/25/14
Black body, mostly opaque, with a diminishing dark tan head and light chestnut tinges on the edges, some sediment left behind. Low retention.
Coffee in the nose. Lots of it. Some chocolate sweetness. Mostly coffee though. Other than the usual beaniness that comes with this style (coffee stout), it’s clean and free of alcohol fumes. Not too sweet, almost no happiness. Nonetheless, I just don’t get these beers. Sure, they don’t do anything wrong and it does display the coffee well, but I just dont think a huge whiff of coffee really is what I’m lookin for in a beer. Maybe it’s just me.
Flavor is sweet, not cloyingly so, but very syrupy and but for the bottle conditioned carbonation, it would be too much. Heavily coffeeish, sweet, clean, but just too one-dimensional. To its credit it gets better with warming, not worse. Brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, milk chocolate. Some roast bitterness lingers on the finish. Very free from booziness, I think that’s my favorite part (and quite surprising). Did they use an American ale yeast? Must have. Ok, fine, it’s grown on me. Just don’t care for the bittersweet soy sauce flavor that hits the back of the throat. And the candi sugar-like sweetness.

Bottle at Mr Hangover’s Nieuwjaarsborrel, thanks to the man himself. Murky brown-black pour. Coffee, chocolate, roasty aroma, dark belgian malts. Taste is sweet, light roasted sourness, coffee, quite boozy. Decent, but not up to this brewery’s other offerings. Way better than the barrel-aged however.

Pours black into a snifter with one finger of a light tan head. Fairly prominent lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, milk chocolate. Sweet, roasted malts and coffee, almost too sweet at times but not quite. Faint bitter presence which is nice to balance out the sweetness. Coffee comes through really nicely. Mouthfeel is thick and smooth, almost like an oatmeal stout. Pretty close to the mouthfeel I look for in a stout. Really good. Wish it came in a bigger bottle. Norway knows their stoots.

Bottle @ Nieuwjaarsborrel 2014, courtesy of me!! Pours a pitch black beer with a small beige head on top. Aroma of coffee, obviously, caramel and caramel. Flavor is very sweet, like coffee with loads of sugar Long lasting, sweet aftertaste. Some bitter flavors are present in the very aftertaste. Light cloying mouthfeel. Nice beer.
