The great warrior of Gath. The mighty champion of the Philistines. Embedded in ancient folklore and religion. Coming from the World of Old. His size and stature is not human. He is bigger. The armor of Goliat is black. Creamy black lacings. Stands with a towering height. He can grab elements from both earth and heaven. Earthy, roasted, notes from the earth. Warming, pungent, sweet notes from the skies. His heart is beating slowly, almost endlessly slow. This man is thought to be invincible!

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade sugar, flaked oats, hops, gourmet coffee and yeast.

Bottle. Dark as night with a roasted, tanned looking head. It simply smells up the room the second it’s cracked open. Coffee, chocolate, sugar. Really nicely balanced between bitter coffee notes and the sweeter components from the sugar and chocolate. Maybe some dark fruits as well. Smells great. First thing that crosses your palate is huge chocolate and coffee. The coffee lies very nicely in the background throughout the entire taste. Salty licorice, roasted/burned malts, some soy sauce and/or green coffee bean especially in the aftertaste. It totally covers your palate and mouth and has this great sticky, sugary feel on your lips. Full-bodied, however, not the biggest of the biggest. Nicely carbonated. Great, great beer from To Øl , again‼! Not the best I’ve had from these guys but definitely a job more than well done!

Bottle: Served in a Chouffe glass: Deep dark to almost black pour. Medium sized ashy (light) brown foamy head on top of a black colored beer. Aromas of hops, hop flowers, citrus, roast, some nettle, coffee, tar, ash, coal, coffee roast, paper burn, hair, roasted nuts. Flavours of coffee, coffee roast, barley malt roast, chalk, brown sugars, clay, bitters, roasted leaves and hay, coffee with milk, some coal, wood roast, hint of chocolate and some herbal roast. Firm roasted body. Aftertaste coffee, roast, barley malt roast, coffee roast, bitter, chalk and some spice roast. Low carbo, soft creamy mouthfeel, full body and an oily sticky texture. Nice aroma with a crispy hop aroma. Taste overall is quite roasty with a good bitterness and some sweet coffee tones. Nice beer, quite balanced though I might have had a bit of a high hope for more...

Tap at London Craft Beer Festival. Pours a dense black/brown. A big beer to be sure. Boozy, sweet with coffee, choc and licorice and a medicinal pepto bismol edge to it. It’s a bit meaty too. Good.

Bouteille 37.5cl, BB 10-01-2017.

Ecpresso like aroma. The taste is a little different. Strong coffee flavour with some hints of chocolate and smoke. Dry and a little bitter finish.

Obviously this was delicious. And there’s plenty of it. Dunno - missing x-factor, reminding me of how I felt about Nogne-O’s Impy. Dan?
