COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The great warrior of Gath. The mighty champion of the Philistines. Embedded in ancient folklore and religion. Coming from the World of Old. His size and stature is not human. He is bigger. The armor of Goliat is black. Creamy black lacings. Stands with a towering height. He can grab elements from both earth and heaven. Earthy, roasted, notes from the earth. Warming, pungent, sweet notes from the skies. His heart is beating slowly, almost endlessly slow. This man is thought to be invincible!

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, roasted barley, dark cassonade sugar, flaked oats, hops, gourmet coffee and yeast.

375 into a snifter Pours a hazy, brownish black color. Settles into a opaque black with some ruby highlights. nice mocha colored head. Half finger to start and ends up being a thick collar. Nice lacing with it. Nose is roasted coffee/ espresso, cream, chocolate, some char, ash and soy sauce. Nice nose though. Taste is dark brown sugar, candied char and ash mixed with some rubber and oats. Touches of oak in the background. Coffee returns in the palate. At times astringent, others not, as the sugar is more dominant. Dry finish, sweet feel and not all that heavy. Maybe too coying at times but a solid coffee stout.

Bottle. An opaque black beer, with an average sized, frothy, lightly lacing, mostly lasting, brown head. The aroma is heavily malty (strong coffee, roasted/burnt grain, chocolate), lightly hoppy (resin), with notes of alcohol, vanilla, smoke and a touch of licorice and coal. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium to full body. velvety/creamy texture, average/lively carbonation, very long finish with moderate bitterness, moderately alcoholic. Wow, this is coffeish, isn’t it? Roasted to the point of being nearly charred, but the malt department and the coffee are intense and rather fresh smelling. Good balance. Some hoppy notes in a long lasting finish.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Nose of coffee, cream, chocolate, wood, light soy. Beautiful head: fine, high brown with bubbles in the center, on pitch black beer.   Sweet dark malts, chocolate, charcoal, coffee, vanilla. Quite tasty, sweet but then quite burnt and bitter. Very big and tasty. Nice body too. A nice imperial coffee stout that is pretty well balanced.
