4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Awesome green glass wide mouth 37.5cl bottle (my favorite bottle type I think) pours with a deep dark body that supports a full thick mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up big and roasty notes like dark roasted malts and over baked chocolate brownie as well as a dash of peaty smoke. The taste begins with dark roasted malts and chunks of chocolate and then more chocolate and malt richness toward midway. This all flows into some mild notes of booze and chili pepper heat. Behind these rich smooth notes are faint yeasty spices as well as a sense of minerals. Solid smooth sipper. Wow!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours black with a weak beige head. Aroma is of roasted toast, bread, caramel, coffee, and some chili pepper. First of all I’d declare that I’m not one for chili stouts, I don’t think they improve the beer whatsoever, just takes over flavour, overall this felt like a really solid beer, but the chili weakens the rest of the taste for me. Taste was quite roasty, some chocolate, some bread, aftertaste of soy sauce and a kind of lingering burn that for me was just not comfortable, made it feel very dry.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Les Fleurs du Malt (Lyon). Dark brown with a small beige head and little to no lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt, cocoa, chili peppers and vanilla. Chili peppers are a little more present in taste, but it’s not overwhelming at all. There’s also cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, light acidic notes (not off) and a bit of chili heat in the finish. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Slightly hot finish. Good balance. Complex and tasty. I’m not fond of these chili beers, but when it’s well executed, it’s not bad at all.
