Dark fat smooth imperial stout brewed with Chipotle, Ancho and Guajillo chillies, that adds a smokyness and a bit of acidic spicyness to the big impy stout.

On tap @ Beer Temple. Black color. Sticky light brown head. Aroma’s: cocoa powder, milk chocolate, ground coffee, roast and some sweetness. Retronasal it’s quite herbal, clearly from the chili’s, which I find to be unpleasant. Flavor is moderate sweet, chocolate, roasted. Alcohol feel is strong, body is medium, the heat of the chili’s is quite mild, fortunately. Finishes roasted and moderate bitter. OK, but I’m about done with the gimmick of putting chili’s in beer. Can’t help but wondering how this would have been without.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Oily, black, milk chocolate head. Liquorice, tar, booze, the chilies add warmth in a discreet way. Nice.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours near black with a thick tan head and a chocolate and chili pepper aroma. There is an intense smoked chocolate flavor with an unmistakable hot chili finish. Very satisfying.

Bottle. Pours deep opaque black with a medium brown creamy head that dissipates quite slowly and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, a bit of tobacco and smoke, chili pepper, anise. Flavor is similar, initially sweet and roasty, bitterness coming on in mid swallow and growing to the finish. The spiciness starts as a bit of black peper, growing into a nice chili pepper warming sensation without ever becoming overpowering. Far finish leaves you with some acidic roasty bitterness and a lingering heat on the roof of the mouth and throat. Medium trending to full body, creamy mouthfeel. This is a well crafted beer.

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland. Pours a thick rich dark color, decent amount of tan/brown head. Aroma slightly smoky, roasty. Body is massive, sooo thick, honestly kind of gobsmackered. Finish is big, too, lots of booze and roastiness, but really not much spice. Fine, but not amazing. Not a bad beer, but not to the standard of most other things I’ve had from To Ol.
