Une dose raisonnable de mordant pimenté, des tanins conciliants et une base chocolatée simple mais efficace. Le corps est filiforme mais chargé de gâteries.

(On tap at Mikkeller Bar Stockholm, Nov 16 2014) Pours an inky black with a fairly large, tight brown head that lingered a fair while and left lace. Aroma has dark sugary malts (molasses/muscovado ish), dried dark fruit (date, plum, raisin?), dark chocolate, brandy notes, hints of vanilla, chilies mostly lost. On the palate, a little less sweet than the nose. Dark malts, bit of brown sugar, more dried plum/date character, chocolate and light coffee, fair bit of brandy and earthy wood building towards the finish. The roast is quite mild but slightly drying, aided by a little peppery quality. Fairly full oily body with soft carb, light alcohol on the finish. Low roast, sweeter malts and the cognac barrel make this a smooth, rich and elegant fruity impy that stays just the right side of being cloying. Might have been even nicer if more chili punch had remained. Big booze limits the drinkability for you though!

Pours black with a dark brown head. Aroma of dark roasted malts, roasted coffee, wood, dark dried fruits, cocoa and doe weak sweet molasses. Taste of cocoa beans, lighter coffee, chocolate, dark dried fruits, weak spices, wood, bitter liquorice, weak tobacco and some sweet cognac notes. Had this side by side with the sherry version. I like this slightly better than the sherry version.

Bottle. Expires 10/10/2023. Pours pitch black with a nice, big, long lasting, brown, frothy head. Aroma is very roasty, but does also have a lot of alcoholic barrel character, cognac, coffee and dark chocolate. Taste has dark chocolate, smooth barrel character, cognac, dark dates and figs and stuff, roasty malts, tobacco and a bit of licorice bitterness in the end. 12,2% is fairly well hidden. Slight heat in the end as well from both alcohol, and maybe a tiny hint of chili heat. Not the most exciting compared to it’s abv and the aging. Pretty full body and medium low carbonation.

Pours black with low tan head. Aroma of muscovado, cognac barrel, chocolate, raisins, dates, figs, very sweet. Taste matches the aroma, very sweet at first followed by boozy alcohol bitter before a chocolate finish. Body is rich and creamy with soft carbonation.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Rocket Rudkin. Dark brown beer, decent mid tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Good fine carbonation. Smooth malts, mild dark character. Mild bretty floralness. Little chocolate and light brandy. Touch of spicy orange. Light semi dry finish. Pretty good.

Bière avec un goût de cognac fort prononcé. D’autres arômes arrivent par après pour finir avec un goût de torréfaction. Bière très alcolisé. Difficile de finir la bouteille.

Strong roasted malt aroma. Hint of sweet liquor. Powerful mouthful. Coffee like appearance and taste. Strong alcohol which makes one beer too many.
