2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 Glouglouburp (5613) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 10, 2013
In short: A soapy/perfumy wild hoppy golden ale. A failed Orval-ish beer. Something went wrong here.
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed approximately six months after purchase, bottle forward to me by mcberko, thanks a lot Matt.
The look: Partly cloudy golden-orange body topped by a medium off-white head with medium retention and leaving lots of lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is bretty-perfumy, I can see a bit of the funky floral Orval thing going on here but this Ov-ral is definitely more on the flowery-perfumy side of things with also lots of phenols. Intriguing aroma. Taste is a major letdown. Very sweet, the flowery-perfumy character of the aroma turns into a mouth full of soap, tortured hops bringing quite a bit of cheese, way too much Orange Crush™, hospital gloves, chewing on flower petals, to make matter worse the alcohol apparent. I can tell there were good intentions here, they were really trying something, but all the elements of this beer clashed together. Bad timing? Bad bottle? This was a disaster. I had such high hopes for this beer, I was as disappointed as my blind date when we were at the restaurant and I asked the waitress for crayons.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 hoppopotamus (260) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - MAY 27, 2013
A beautiful cloudy amber beer with a smallish off white head that leaves lace. Some yeasty floccules in the pour. Aroma is an absurdly good combination of tart, fruity wild yeast funk and lots of floral/fruity hops. The flavor jumps on the tongue with slightly sour fruit (green apple/citrus) that blends into a resiny/piny hop bitterness. Just amazing.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 kaser (1125) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 12, 2013
Randomly grabbed this from the fridge this morning. Not really a breakfast beer. Holy moly. This is a massive beer. Thick orange pour, clear, medium white head. White floaty sediments in this guy. Orange and tropical aroma. Very hoppy alcohol fruity taste. Just massive. Wow. Good but not at noon on a hangover
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JohnGalt1 (83) - , Idaho, USA - MAY 9, 2013
Picked this up at the COOP last night... Paid $5ish. Pours with a 2 finger meringue like head... thick and foamy looks like shaving cream... the brew is hazed orange... beautiful sheets of lace for the entire glass.
Nose is very interesting... hoppy and phenolic.... some mild yet wild plastic notes... something that reminds me of apricots... and spicy coriander.
Candied grapefruit zest on the palate... dry dusty basement and somehow still something that seems to be sweetness, but I know this is bone dry... Hops (I think so) are sorta resinous piney notes.
Body is fairly big... even with the bigger carbonation the mouthfeel is still surprisingly creamy.
Pretty interesting beer... I would like to see some American breweries give this a try so I could hopefully try it a lot fresher.... Still a pretty cool experiment.
4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 BEENJAMIN (59) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 26, 2013
Sweet and delicious fruit aroma. Huge orange flavors with a dry and intense finish, dank. This reminds me of most of Mikkeller’s higher gravity beers. It’s quite boozy and sweet but incredibly unique and leaves you wanting more. Try Sleep Over side by side with this.
