COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: The sequel to the Mikkeller/To Øl collab "Overall IIPA". The same beer but with tons of nice nutty aromatic espresso coffee. This is hybrid beer if ever seen one. The combination of fruits and citrus from the hops and the round coffee aromas plus the warmth of the alcohol makes this a clash of a IIPA, Black IPA, American strong and Barley Wine. Cheers!

Interesting earthy hops aromas, pine, citrus and the added roasted coffee notes really make it unique. It pours a deep orange/ light brown color with light head retention. The taste is like somebody hopped the hell out of my coffee. It has some real nice bitterness, a little bit of sweetness up front and some umami. It is medium to full bodied and has some warmth to it as well from the high ABV. It’s more like a black IPA than a regular but this beer couldn’t fit neatly into any category.

Keg at Friends of Ham. Pours a deep orange, with a finger of head. Aroma is resinous hops, grass and coffee, with a little touch of cinnamon or something earthy underneath. Taste is good, too, hoppy, caramely, earthy and with a nice coffee thing going on there too. The coffee’s not underplayed to the extend that it’s unnoticeable, but equally it far from dominates, it’s really nicely done. Impressive and mature.

Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. Pours a deep hazy orange body with a medium off-white head. Aroma is piney grass notes, grapefruit, melon, then coffee and cardamom sort of sneaking in from behind. Pretty cool. Taste is pine, grass, coffee, resin, hints of herbs and melon. Slick full body, medium carbonation. Original and tasty.

Flaske delt med Aske på Søernes Ølbar: mye ipapreg og litt kaffe, masse kick og punch. This is your wake up call.

Pours a hazy golden color with a significant white head that lasts and lasts. Citrus aroma with a bit of coffee but not as much as I was expecting. The coffee and the hops don’t go badly together, but this beer has a lot of flavor. It has a pretty strong aftertaste and is a bit syrupy in the mouth. An interesting beer for sure, but maybe not one at the top of my list to try again.

12 ounce bottle at the Bayou. Pours a cloudy copper color with a medium white head. A big nose mostly of coffee and some fruit. The flavor is rich with bitter fruity hops and dominant coffee. Doesn’t quite shine as a IIPA but melds well.

Hazy amber body, offwhite head. Caramella matt, really harsh bitterness on dark side of the hops. Some alcohol. Flavour has some unpleasant pungent alcoholic sweetness and harshness. Coffee does not fit if it brings elements like this. I don’t taste the coffee.

11.2 ounce bottle - $5.99 at Lucky’s in Woodstock, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a clouded, dark orange body with a sea foam spray-type, lightly yellowed head.

Smell: Resinous, citrus oils commingled with wafting, stinging alcohol and brewed (and subsequently chilled) coffee ahead of the sweetish malt notes failing to make much of an impression.

Taste: A toffee and caramel syrup maltiness with a quick pop of sugary sweetness. This upfront sweetness is swiftly knocked aside by a full rush of pithy citrus, resinous hops and a bold bitterness, as well as the coffee flavor and peppery, punchy alcohol qualities. Drying, bitter finish that’s a bit hot. Lingering astringency and alcoholic harshness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: I didn’t really like it. Not that I have a beef with the concept, as I quite enjoyed BHB’s recent Wrong Em Boyo. Now c’mere and give me a hug!

Bottle, new to the shelves here, but no idea how old it is, and the date on the cap is smeared; thinking best by August ’14, or thereabouts. Nose of strangely clashing citrus and strong espresso, two things I love but which work at cross-purposes here. Pours hazy golden with orange and brown slashes and a tan head strongly reminiscent of when ice cream is dunked in root beer. Taste is lightly sweet but undercut and with a strong bitter and lightly astringent current, indefinite hops mingle with roast of both malt and coffee beans, strongly nutty. Light fruit and citrus, medium body. This is a classic "kitchen sink" beer familiar to homebrewers (and resembling one of my own coffee infusions), and as such a monstrosity. Does manage to pep me up, though!
