3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle split at CBC, thanks to Josh, 05/12/13.
Hazed reddish amber with a moderate light beige covering.
Nose is booze laden, punchy tropical notes, sweaty tights, touch pissoi, caramelised sugars, vague perfume notes.
Taste mellows a little when contrasted to the nose, not quite as much going down but decent none the less with caramel malt base, brown sugars, dark stewed fruits, candied orange peel, red grapefruit, woody notes, red grapes.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, booze evident in the finish but subtle enough throughout.
Decent enough B Wine.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared at CBC Clerkenwell in London - big thanks to Josh! Pours lightly hazy amber with a thick, off-white head. Heavy stuff. Lots of rich, ripe fruits, berries, bread and toffee. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with some alcohol sting, dried berries, hefty bready malts. Quite sweet and intimidating on the palate but still quite tasty.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dark brown with a small, tan head leaving very sticky lacing. Nose is big on the dark fruits - raisin, dates, fig. Fairly stewed and tofee focused stuff with mild chocolate powder. Taste is dry and chocolate driven, mild pepper, stewed figs/dates, raisin sweetness and brown sugar. Some vanilla and banana on the finish. Moderate heat. think his could do with a fair bit of age on it. Decent stuff

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a light clear amber color ale with a rather large foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of sweet toffee notes with caramelized malt with light sweet vinous notes. Taste is also dominated by sweet toffee notes with some caramelized malt with a sweet white wine finish. The whole mix is sweet without being overly so that it falls into gross territory. Body is about average with good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Not as complex as I was anticipating with nice used of barrel-aging treatment.

12.7oz bottle, purchased around 6 months ago. Shared with caterwaul. We had just drank the base 1 beer before this. Hazy amber reddish color. Thin khaki head. Good rows of lace. Dark fruit, vinous. some wood in the nose. Good, smooth, sort of creamy lighter carbonation, as in the base. Bigger body. Nice oaky, woody aroma. Dark fruit. Some raisin, vinous notes, plum. Moderate bitter, light sweet. Again, alcohol is pretty well-hidden. Less warmth detected here, even, maybe more sweetness than the base, though. Very smooth barleywine, but I don’t think it’s any better or worse than the original version. More sweet grapey dark fruit, less earthy hop bitterness, less alcohol warmth. Both very good, tasty, and easy-drinking, but in very different ways.
