4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Danish barley wine brewed in Belgium. Moussy, yellowish white, dense head leaving good lacing and retaining remarkably well considering the impressive ABV; colour is a truly stunning pure copper, clear with fine sparkling. Lovely fruity and earthy aroma, very complex and seductive, with hints of orange liqueur, cognac, candi sugar, madera and sherry, butterscotch, peaches in syrup, black pepper, red apple, banana, mango, leather, sweet tobacco, dried ginger, honey, amaretto, grapefruit, sweat and something faintly smoky. Sweet onset, candi syrup, raisins, apple juice, marzipan, sherry; resinous, smooth but thick and full, very vinous mouthfeel, deep caramelly and honeyish malt sweetness, chocolatey accents, medium carbonation, spicy notes all around, retronasal perfume, finishing long and dry with brandy- and liqueur-like, heart warming alcohol, earthy and somewhat ’dusty’ yeastiness, bonbon-like sweetness and peppery, sharpish and assertive hop bitterishness. Barley wines are one of my favorite styles on a gloomy winter’s day like today and this is a very good example, though perhaps a tad too sweet to comfortably finish the whole 37.5 cl bottle - yet the complexity of the aroma makes up for that. Highly recommended if you are into this particular style and I am convinced this has a huge aging potential.

Oh man! This is so intense. Great hoppy aroma (citrus, tropical fruit and resin) mixed with some caramel nailed it! Awesome taste of sweet, barley wine mixed with some hops. 5 out of 5. No doubt at all.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Aroma: caramel, citrus, spice, butter; Appearance: clear orange, vanishing frothy head; Taste: intense sweetness, slight sourness; Palate: full body, oily texture, long finish, soft carbonation
Kudos for fudgy, sticky mouthfeel and almost unnoticeable alcohol. Unfortunately the immense sweetness is killing me softly.

OK, a combination of my favorite bottle format (wide ass mouthed green thick glass 37.5cl bottle) and one of my favorite breweries brewing my favorite style. Yes! Heaven. It pours with a nearly clear deep copper body that has amber hues and supports a full tan head. The aroma offers up sweet tangerine, pineapple, spicy yeast and then a sizeable spicy woodiness. The taste starts thick and bold with malts, residual sugars, wide citrus notes, some mango and then a bit of a woody yeasty sort of note. To midway a mild malt and nutty sensation is just noticed underneath all of the sweetened citrus hops that dominate this brew. As it warms a pleasing spicy dank kind of garlic note rises up to be heard alongside the thick malt sweetened citrusy notes that are going on. Solid hoppy barleywine.
