"Heaven knows no frontiers, and I’ve seen heaven in your eyes"

This is how the Frontier beer series lost their ground, missed direction and finally found themselves again. This beer has no frontiers, meaning that it can now pick and choose among brewing specialties. Instead of being an IPA, this is a rather a Belgian ale, hopped and dryhopped with continental european hops and refermented with brettanomyces. A tart, picturesque and rural beer.

Ingredients: Water, barley malt, hops, Rock Candy, yeast and brettanomyces.

Hazy orange pour with a white head. Much sweeter than anticipated. Strong green apple aroma, a little bit of yeast, and some mild floral hop notes. I don’t really get much from the Brettanomyces. The flavor is also very sweet and caramel forward. Tons of green apple skin which is a bit off putting. Light lemon zest, floral hops, and some yeast.

Capped 750 from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours slightly hazy copper with a 4 finger creamy/frothy near white head. Lots of head blocking aroma - I get hint of bubblegum and some brett notes. Sour bubblegum? I think I kinda remember chewing that. Med body. Flavor is earthy, sour, fruity and still with hints of bubblegum. Overall sort of barnyard strewn with ripe fruit and crushed flowers. Don’t ya love a good simile? Seriously I’d have put this down as Bier de Garde or Saison. It’s really, really good. Finishing dry, bitter, sour, earthy - all in all refined barnyard.

750ml bottle. Hazy copper colour with huge, firm, frothy, lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Yeasty aroma with dry fruit notes. Taste is dry, hoppy, moderately yeasty with underlying minimal sweetness.

750ml bottle from the Rare Beer Club. Nice hefty orange pour, almost a chewy looking body with a boisterous and quite sticky head. Lacing everywhere on the glass. Big nose that’s initially quite sweet and fruity, orange rind and candy, but followed by a healthy dose of bitter and Brett. Mouthfeel is full but playful, never sticky or cloying. And while the sweetness is certainly consistent throughout the taste, it’s very dry and bretty overall. Righteously hopped, IPA or not. And a damn fine beer overall.

Appearance: beautiful clear coppery pour with an absolutely massive head of near-white foam that reluctantly shrinks to a thick cap, leaving a universe of lacing everywhere. Aroma: clean, hoppy citrus notes, with white pepper, yeasty spice, buttery light toast, and just a barest hint of funk. Taste: very fresh-tasting, with hoppy citrus vying with sweet-tart candies up front, followed by a hint of sour apple on the back end, all over a nicely balancing caramel malt backbone. Finish: minty, slightly earth, with a sharp note (must be the brett) that cleans a building alcohol warmth from the palate. Notes: Complex, with loads of dry, clean fruit, Belgian spice, a hint of brettanomyces funk, spritzy-drinkable carbonation, and a nice balance of sweet, sour, and tart. Winner. Bottle from the Rare Beer Club.

Bottle shared by John, THanks! we agreed that this is a weird beer, its not a brett bomb by any stretch but the hops still fit in there somewhere, once you have a taste you can remember the taste but its not such a great memory, just an okay one.

Shared at the local homebrew Christmas party. Light, hazy pour with a small head. Aroma is spicy grain. Taste is more spice, grain, banana, and peppers.

from Erzbierschof - hazy orangeish beer under a solid white foam; light notes of bretts, pear and yeast; juicy and medium-bodied, a hint of acidity and a light bitterness; long fruity finish with a lingering acidity - very drinkable
