3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Lukaduke (1066) - Portland, Maine, USA - JUN 16, 2013
Pours a deep rusty brown color with a finger of eggshell foam. The nose has a bit of rubber, leather, brett funk, grass and toffee. The palate follows but to me this beer reads as a english bitter with brett. A big malty toffee sweet almost buttery base which is made more complex by the addition of a heavy brux brett strain that has its moments of nice flavor but also goes over the plastic phenol edge here and there as well.

on tap at alewife, part of beers gone wild event. slightly hazy staw yellow color, not much head, nice yeast esters, brett apparent in the nose. fairly light, refreshing body. kind of reminds me of a rustic saison. the brett character in the beer’s flavor is nicely done, not one dimensional, not overly complex, either.

There’s a lot going on here but it’s all pretty subtle. Floral and citrus hop, Belgian yeast funk, sweet caramel, and a tart finish. If everything was turned up a notch it would really be amazing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 FlacoAlto (3506) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 14, 2013
A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a three finger thick, pale amber tinged, pale tan colored head. The beer is a rich amber hue that shows a brilliantly clear, bright, almost metallic looking, copper hue when held up to the light. The nose smells of expressively fruity hops as the foam rises a full two-fingers in height above the rim of my glass. This has a slightly earthy, funky, sort of phenolic edge to it that plays a supporting role to the bright hops. The malt character is quite noticeable with a caramelized, crystal malt character that adds a caramel and sweet whole grain coated edge to the dominant hop character. Speaking of which, the hops contributes ample notes of ruby-red grapefruit juice, tangelo zest, and lots of guava notes. As the beer warms the malt character becomes a bit more expressive with a caramelized, English biscuit like note and perhaps a touch of sweet tea.
Effervescent, slightly sweet accentuated by the malt, and hoppy without being overly bitter, the beer also has a funky, phenolic edge to it that provides some muskiness as well as a cured plastic like character to it. The hop character is the dominant note here, though it seems a touch less expressive than it was in the aroma. Along with the crystal malts, this reminds me of a sweet brown bread / cake that is amply flavored with grapefruit marmalade. Quite light bodied, and very quaffable, this would be about perfect if there was an accentuating firmness to the flavor (a biting bitterness would certainly do the trick).
Quite light and easy drinking; it actually can seem a bit simplistic at times, in the flavor it could actually use some more bitterness to provide a needed firm quality. Still quite quaffable in the end, but could use a bit more character to be great.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 17/20 Davros (1515) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - MAY 12, 2013
Pours dark amber with a large head.
Nose shows herbal hops, grassy hints, soft funk, bready malt, confectionery.
Heavier flavours, quite malty with bready and biscuity notes alongside some fruitcake and herbal and spicy hops.
Too much carbonation.

On tap at Mikkeller & Friends, pours a cloudy golden with a medium white head. Aroma and flavour is rather subtle, with notes of Belgian yeast, and biscuity malt. Not really a whole lot to this, with very subtle flavours. Pretty boring.
