COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Enough heavy dark obnoxious sweet super malty x-mas and winter beers. When you eat heavy duck with fat gravy, the last thing you want is another heavy sweet malt liqour!
NO! you want something that can help you digest the dinner, ease you stommach and cleance your throat. And that is exactly what Snowball Saison will do. It is a SUPER sparkling crisp and dry Saison that has been refermented with milk acid bacterias and dry hopped over and over to give the beer a crisp and smooth tart finish (not to mention.... there is a lot of hops of course...)
Have a nice winter!

Ingredients: Water, Malt, Flaked Oats , Light Candy, HOPPPPPSSSSS (Amarillo, Tettnanger, Simcoe, Hallertauer) Yeast and brettanomyces

Tap. Pours hazy, dark gold with average, creamy white head; good retention and lacing. Aroma is biscuit and cereal malt, herbs, grassy and floral hops, lemon, orange peel, and spice. Flavor is spice and dry malts forward with light fruit esters, grassy hops, and herbs; touch of booze at the end with a dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Appearance: this beer pours with a large off white head, the beer is a nice amber color, does not seem cloudy Aroma: some funk, has a hop bitterness smell, faint but skunky, almost some industrial lager Taste: has a milky flavor to it, some bitterness, almost champagne flavors, a sweetness, slight funk Palate: lively carbonation, leaves mouth very dry, light mouthfeel, minimal aftertaste Overall: very interesting beer, not sure the age of this bottle but it was on the discount rack, no taste of the high abv, wouldn’t mind trying this again, comes alive as it warms

Bottle. Moderate malt aroma of grain, moderate to heavy grass for the hops, soap for the yeast, with faint green apple, coriander and some light dried fruit. Head is large, frothy turning rocky, white, with excellent thick and crust lacing and is fully lasting. Color is hazy and sparkling clear medium to dark amber. Flavor starts moderately sweet, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, watery, with a lively carbonation and a lightly astringent finish. A nice, smooth and easy drinking Saison.

750 ml bottle. Unclear orange body with a huge, foamy off-white head. Rather mild, but nice aroma with fruit and Saison spicy yeast and hint of Brett. Flavor is nice, soft malty, moderate fruity, balanced bitterness and yeast and also hint of Brett. Medium body and decent aftertaste. A nice one, but might be more interesting when the Brett flavor becomes more present.

I was hoping for a little bit of sourness, but its dryness won me over in the end. Cloudy orange with decent head and negligible aroma. Lemon and grass.

A steady, but careful pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a fat-three-finger thick, glass filling, pale tan head that continues to grow above the rim, such that I have to cull the excess. As the head slowly subsides it leaves lots of lacing on the sides of my glass and forms an interesting, structural mesa in the middle of the beer. The beer is a pretty, rich amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, maddly carbonated, almost metallic, pale amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of candied tropical and citrus fruit up front, while the finish has a dry, citrus zest character to it at times. Supporting notes of black pepper, dried hay like herbal notes, bits of toasted whole grain crackers.

The foam tastes of citrus and tropical fruit up front, but finishes lingeringly bitter and astringent. The beer really has an almost candied hop fruit quality to it, but without any sweetness; guava jam, a bit of lychee syrup, candied kumquat zest, peach concentrate, and some candied papaya are all here, interestingly enough the fruit character is so expressive that it provides a perceived sweetness to this beer. The beer is quite dry, and fairly light bodied for a beer of this strength. Touches of spicy peppery, some warming / spicy alcohol, and a bit of hop astringency and bitterness give this beer a bite in the finish. There is a touch of fermentation spiciness here, perhaps a bit of earthiness (that plays up a sun-toasted hay like notes), a soft phenolic character that provides just a hint of mustiness here, and perhaps a touch of something that accentuates a woodiness in the hop character, but really the fermentation character is far lighter than I would expect in something labeled a Saison; having said that, this is well with in the norm of commercial Saisons, it is just that I prefer them with a bit more fermentation character.

This is much more of a hop focused beer than a Saison. I would not have guessed that lactic acid bacteria was added to this beer as it really isn’t very tart right now; perhaps some age will see this kick in, but by then the hop character will also be much reduced. Despite being on the "clean" side for how I prefer a Saison, this is really quite good and enjoyable, and I certainly wouldn’t turn down more of this beer by any means.

Bottle at home. The colour is cloudy, light orange and with a creamy, off-white, medium head. Aroma of hops, citrus, Belgian yeast and peaches. Grassy hops in the flavour along with lime, hay and some alcohol. Slick mouth feel, and has a medium and lasting bitterness. A fresh and well-hopped sasion.
