4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.2 oz. bottle from The Party Source consumed at home. Pours an oily, dark brown to black in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma has dark roasted malts, a bigger kick of whiskey, some peat, it definitely has a Brewdog spin but plenty of the base beer is showing through, wood, chocolate, molasses. The flavor has big roasted malts, dark chocolate, molasses, whiskey, wood, peat, ash, this one opened up more as it warmed, some sweet comes through, but the barrel is always there.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle - shared by Kairi - thanks! At 10.6%
Very sweet roasty aroma, butter from the wood, touch of bacon fat, hint of alcohol. Black, large spongy persistent head. Full sweet palate, sticky and smooth, a bit heavy. Great rich sweet roast, nicely burnt, but no astringency. Alcohol quite well hidden under the huge blanket of sugar. Gently smokey, has nice dry herbal bitter notes from hops too, in the finish. Just a hit of whisky from that. Everything fits together well, and like BD’s lumberjack, I can overlook the excessive sweetness because of the sheer hedonism. Nice one.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a viscous-looking black body with a medium brown, rather small, but dense and creamy head that leaves a decent amount of traces on the walls of my glass. Sweet, lactic and strong aroma of milk chocolate and roasted malt.Vanilla and whisky (without any peat) in the back. Strong flavour of milk chocolate, alcohol, gentle whisky (actually, the lack of peat makes this remind me more of a gentle US bourbon than a scotch whisky). The alcohol is a bit stinging, and should have been better integrated. Moderate sweet taste with a quite heavy long-lasting finish. Full-bodied, creamy and smooth texture and soft carbonation. Very nice.

Black, strong dark brown head. Lactose, roasty malt, toffee, chocolate and notes of whisky on the nose. Quite something. Thick mouthfeel. Bittersweet, definite whisky, cocoa and toffee. FInishes warming and bittersweet. Awesome.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap. PSBH, Manchester. Black, with a thick, bubbly, lasting beige head, complete with a glossy top. Woody, boozy, dark chocolate, treacle, espresso ice cream. Pretty much how you’d imagine. Taste is treacle sweet. Turn ashy dry, then roasty bitter. Not as big a mouthfeel as the aroma and taste might hint at. Bit of heat. Finishes long, roasty, treacly bitter. Big and boozy, but slightly hard work. Still got a 4 though. How does that work?....

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pitch brown, glint of paper bag brown on the edge and a thick ring and viscous film. Nose is whisky milk, creamy ramped steps of firm booziness and can-do beastly malt. Initial taste is silky, brilliant flights of burnt marshmallow and cheap but worn leather. It’s hard to look past the mouthfeel. Shaken silk and ink wells of melted malt. Not biting, not boozy, not fiery. The barrel ageing is an earthy lowland sweetness, smack down of brassy bitterness at the linger but the finish before hand is almost too much. Stuttering liquorice covered by a gasping milk choc, dusty and wholesomely bitterness. All eliminated by a concentrated rolling whisky sweetness. I can’t think of any way to improve this beer but make more of it. Please.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at What’s Brewing. A dark brown beer, close to black, with a finger-thick dark tan head on top. The aroma is chocolate-ish and roasted, with some alcohol notes. Rather vinous. It’s full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated, warming. Sweet, almost sugary flavor with dark chocolate, roasted malts and some vinous alcohol notes. Even though it’s tasting sweet, it feels surprisingly dry in the finish. An intense and tasteful beer, that’s for sure. 141031

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla, liquorice, leather and roasted malts in the aroma. Black with a brown head. Medium to heavy sweet and medium bitter. Full body with a soft carbonation. Slightly sticky texture and a long finish. Overall a really nice Imperial Stout, rich flavour and nice warming alcohol in the back.

Another cracker from to øl. Pours dark black with a tan head that lingers nicely. Aroma is chocolate and cocoa. Taste is milk chocolate, malts, subtle coffee. Finishes with a bit of smoke, whisky and some beautiful espresso bitterness. An absolute favourite
