So as it turns out Italian can make a proper Belgian saison (as opposed to Americans), because this almost clean yellow golden body reveals a very delicate and yet elaborate Belgian ale with interesting farmy yeast. Classically hopped, but rich so, quality light malts, and a good yeast presence to go with it. Tasty. However (there is always something to complain) itís a bit too light in palate. A bit more caramel malts and itís really good. (75cl bottle from Dranken Geers)

Bottle @ Corso ADB 2013.

Bottle, shared with BBGTC. Deep brown, near-black body, big creamy light beige head. Nice. Aroma is licorice, pine, herbs and hints of coffee. Taste is licorice, pine, hints of herbs and spruce. Medium to full body, soft to medium carbonation. A decent BIPA from Toccalmatto.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2014 09.10.2013, 0,75l bottle sampled @ BBGTC tasting:
Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is kind of sour-ish salty, dark malts, salty licorice, dark berries, coffee, hops, grass, rubber. Taste is slightly dry, dark malts, hay, cardboard, grass, raw licorice, coffee. Medium to longlasting bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Boring.

On tap at The Trappist. Pours near black with a transient tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses, tobacco and chocolate flavor with a dry finish.

hazy sepia, thin small bubbled cream. Too heavily carbonated for black IPA, hoppy and spritzy with low roast. Flavor shows light brownie, very green and earthy through improving mid, lots of roast, gets cola-esque in finish.

Decent black IPA. Pours black with good head and lacing. Some roast malt, some hops. More on the malty side than hoppy. Soft carbonation. On tap in impromptu sampler served up by Chris at Ebenezer Kezarís.

750mL from El Cerrito. $17 or so- ouch. Pours a muddy near black, brown highlights. Massive tan foam, overcarbonated. Ice cream scoop retention. Huge lacing. Nose is pine, roast, savory steak, mild olive- on target Black IPA. Taste is fruity, roast, pine, mild sugar and soap. Palate is a tad too dusty and soapy, not enough density given the high effervescence. Slightly too aerated. Citric acid bite. Still, crazy on target for American Black IPA from Bruno.

Black pour with a single finger head. Lots of carbonation. Limited aroma. Long lingering bitterness. A little roast. Overall a very clean Black IPA.
