UPDATED: MAR 15, 2014 From bottle at Borefts 2013. Awesome beer. Perfect mix between all the good from wine and beer. By far the best beer I had at Borefts. Sweet dried fruits, vineous notes, tawny port, some alcohol. I must find another bottle. Update: found another bottle. Pours no head. Body is hazy amber. Aroma contains light malts (light bread, cookie, roasted malts, nuts, molasses), light hops (flowers, pine, grapefruit, orange) and grape, raisin, plum, prune, white wine, tawny port, cask wood, honey and alcohol. Flavor is light acidic and then sweet. Body is full with syrupy texture. Carbonation is flat. It looks and feels like a port, it tastes like a beer and also like wine. This is not for everyone but I love it.

Very tasty barley wine. The Italian heritage is detectable in the sweet dark fruits and smooth spices. Very good.

My Bottom Line:
This Barrel-Aged Barley Wine is the setting for caramelized prunes, controlled oxidation, wood, red wine and hazelnuts in a luxurious body.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-There is barely any head atop the misty dark red.
-Carbonation is very low, but it works with the deeply caramelized malts.
-This can probably age with the best of them.
-Had this next to some 7 to 11-year old Thomas Hardy’s and it wasn’t fazed at all.
