A absolutely fantastic looking clear red-waxed 0.5l bottle, #0128. I wish every beer could come in these kinds of wrappings. I must say that Iím no huge fan of the hard porous wax that crumbling up and you really have to struggle not to get it in to the beer, but this was absolutely worth it. Anyhow, when I finally get to pour it into my glass it has one of the darkest chocolate heads Iíve ever seen. Both bubbly and lacing, but the color of this head is just amazing. Looks almost like hot chocolate floating on top of a near jet black body. Everything about the looks here is just spot on! On the nose itís no doubt that Mr. Oak Brett has payed a visit. Acidic lemony funky nose with lots of tart old wood, sour blackberries, acidic tomatoes, some faint sour coffee, a little roasty toasty tone, lots and lots of vinous red wine, tanninís and traces of sour gooseberries mixed with salty lingon berries. Damn. So much going on here in the superbly complex aroma. Donít think Iíve ever tasted anything like this before. Liquefied licorice, leather blended with salty bacon, lots and lots of espresso infused wood, salt rope with tones of burned toast, super strong chocolate milk, pickled lemons and that creaminess this gives in the mouth is worth the relatively high price alone. This has to be one of the most impressive and one of the most complex beers Iíve ever tasted. I kid you not, the alcohol is not even noticeable. At all! Super roasty flavors towards the finish with burned paper, lots of vinous okay tanninís, toasted oak and that slightly acidity just cutting straight through it all. Iím super impressed over how interesting, rich, chewy and powerful this puppy actually is. A masterpiece that you can just sip at forever. Wow ... 03.03.2014

Look: Pours with average, very thick, mocha (yellow hue) head. Has good, relatively fast retention, mostly diminishing. A very thin, compact layer stays on top. Leaves fair amount of lacing. Color is dark with brown hue. Solid stuff, maybe missing a bit more head.

Smell: Roast, molasses, dark chocolate sweet malt. Light sour - wood berries, currant, acidified red wine . Some light brett musty funk, relatively subtle but gives a fat meaty feeling. Everything in good balance and smooth throughout. No alcohol to detect.

Taste: Roast intensity rises, but doesnít go in the coffee zone. Medium molasses, roast, dark chocolate sweetness continues into light to medium fruity sour spike and ends with light to medium roast bitterness and sour. Sour part completes the taste circle, makes the whole experience a bit lighter. Light bitterness and sour stay for a while. Interesting that there is no brett to detect in the taste, but there are some tart red wine notes and maybe some wood.

Mouthfeel: Creamy as fck, full body, but it feels a bit lighter due to the sour part. Very soft alcohol warmth and notes to detect when beer warms up a bit.

Overall: The sour part (probably from brett, so acetic acid) makes it a lighter and more complete beer - goes well with the creamy fat roast and high alcohol. Even the red wine barrels do it justice and add another part of the complexity. Well crafted beer.

Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, soya sauce, brett, alcohol and red wine. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, roasted, chocolate and brett finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat.

Bottle, 50cl wine corked. Bottle #0130. A real hazzle to open this one, with wax and wine cork, but we did it. It pours almost headless, just a few dark brown bubbles around the rim. Itís very dark brown in the glass, borderline black. Pretty vinous aroma, with soy sauce, molasses, roasted malts, some dark berries and quite a lot of alcohol. Warming and full-bodied, low on carbonation. Vinous flavor too, with soy sauce, tar, licorice, coffee and red wine. Roasted, almost bonfire maltyness in the end, with salty licorice, tar and quite a lot of red wine tannins. A tasteful one, but a bit too warming, and it could use a little bit more carbonation. Nice anyway. 131228

Tiny brown bubbly mediumlasting head. Aroma is very balanced, slightly sweet, dark malts, sweet licorice, dark sugar, caramel, mild coffee, oak, mold, hints of red berries. Taste is very mild and balanced, dark malts, redwine barrel, licorice, cocoa, grass, burnt coffee, oak, caramel. Little bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Very balanced and mild this one. If I diddnít know this was 12%, Iíd never have guessed it was even close to that. Nice one!
