Editor’s translation. Salty Dog is a version of Dudes that has been aged in casks of Caol Ila whiskey, hence taking from the barrel the smoke and salty character.

Fort nez de whisky, goût tourbé, odeur et goût très prononcé d’alcool. Difficile de trouver d’autres notes que le whisky tourbé Coal! Mais quelle originalité. Du toccalmatto!!!

Bottle, at Haand Festival. An amber-brown beer with a small, dense, beige head. The aroma is lightly peaty, giving an impression of an imperial stout in a way, but there’s too much dried fruits, caramel and toffee for that. Some oak too. The flavor has a light salty and bitter touch, it’s quite peated, with oak notes, toffee and dried apricots. It’s full-bodied and warming on the palate, soft carbonation. Lasting finish. Overall, lovely, but too warming. Normally not a fan of peated beers, except some imperial stouts, but this was nice. 140524

Sea salt, peat, liquor, whiskey, vanilla, dark fruit. Soft oily mouthfeel but offering a potent boozey taste experience. What I love about this barrel ages brew is that I first taste the sugars and immediately after the peat, oak, smoke, raisins etc. emerge! One of Italy’s best! I’d love some more aroma complexity, which now is ruled over by the peat.

At ACBF. Clear bronze beer with practically no head. Apparently Dudes aged on Caol Ila barrels. Aroma completely dominated by medicinal iodine, very off-putting and reminding me more of a hospital or my grandmother’s medicine cabinet than beer... Peated whisky too, and the candied fruit and port wine sweetness of the basic beer piercing through, especially in the taste, which starts about the same way as Dudes, with the same vinous character; salty peat and that horrible iodine thing come back in the finish though, along with whisky-like alcohol. A fine barley wine ruined by a horrible iodine smell coming forth from the whisky barrels - an experience very comparable with Jopen Laphroaig Barrel Aged, which didn’t work for me at all for the same reason. This time I found it even worse, to be honest. Not for me.

Poured medium reddish brown with a tan ring. Aroma of meaty, sour berries. Full body, flavour is as the aroma, sweet malt with a dry, sweet end.

Clear brown color with ruby hues, short quickly-disappearing tan head, aromas of peat and smoke. In mouth, it is very sweet. I mainly felt the peat, smoke, salt, spices and an interesting and nice lingering salty caramel finish. thick texture. It is a nice one, a bit too sweet but i love the finish.

Borefts VI. Keg. Hazy amber beer, tiny pale cream colour head. Palate is smooth with mild superfine carbonation. Mild peat. Sweetish caramel malts. Light generic fruits. Mild spice. Light dry finish . Spicy linger. Not bad.
