COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Editor’s translation. Salty Dog is a version of Dudes that has been aged in casks of Caol Ila whiskey, hence taking from the barrel the smoke and salty character.

Pours dark reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, peat, caramel, and alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light bitter with a long warm and peat finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

24.05.2014, 0,375l bottle sampled @ HaandFestival:
Tiny shortlasting head. Aroma is well peated, wet leather, peat, burnt caramel, hay, alcohol, grass, ashes. Taste is very sweet, sugar, peat, leather, ashes, oak, caramel, burnt coffee, hay, grass. Medium to longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.

Bottiglia.

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Pours dark red, some head that soon falls down. Smells of salty ocean, harbour, peat, dark malts and islay whisky. Salt up front, then moderate to medium sweet, smooth dark malt flavors blended with peat and plums, oak and tar. Then some more salty flavor. Very nice texture, warmy but not boozy. Excellent barrel aged barley wine!

Hazy rich mahogany red with no head. Aroma of peat, iodine, charred wood, smoke, deep sweetness underneath, sherry, rich caramel, toffee. Taste sweet and chocolaty and first, giving way to smoke and peat, and then smoked meat / beef jerky flavor (Bisslie Grill) that stays on the palate for a while. As my wife put it: "It’s a really interesting beverage". I’m inclined to agree.

375 ml bottle. L11018. BBE 2026. Courtesy of Brandman. Dark violet brown colour with no head. The aroma is whiskey sweetness, strong smoke, peat and malt. The flavour is smoke, whiskey, malt and peat. Rather drinkable. But strong. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 12, 2013 Pours a dark ruby red and brown coloured liquid with some hints of a tan brown head which just disappears, which is very unfortunate. On the nose aromas of whisky (especially islay - which got its distinctive aromas!), oak, salt, light peat and faint notes of citrus and vanilla develop. Very light fizzyness develops on the palate which fades into an oily light velvety texture which is supported by the dominant whisky flavour. A full bodied beer with tastes of strong sweetness with light notes of bitter & sourness. The finish is at first a bit quick but like a good dram lingers with its aromas long on the palate in an excellently balanced way and right at the fading end of the beer a nice sweet liquorice finish develops. Really enjoyable beer!

Bottle. Murky brown with no head. Aroma is very smokey, peat, whisky, syrup, molasses and lots of caramel. Taste is similar, the peat smoke and whisky notes hits you like a hammer. Big caramel, lots of sweetness (that drowns in the massive smoke), toffee, caramel and more smoke. I like this a lot.
