Good hoppy beer, mostly citrus, but also grassy. Fruity combination, some mango besides the citrus. Misses something, but not bad at all.

Grassy citrus aroma. Taste grainy, grassy, citrus. Long bitter aftertaste but misses some complexity, especially in the aftertaste. Very decent italian beer dough.

15/V/2012 - 75cl bottle from Abbaye des Saveurs (Lille) @ Klaas’ place - BB: 18/VII/12 (2012-501)

Clear ruby red to red brown beer, small creamy head, beige unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: pretty sweet, dried fruits, some caramel, forest fruit candy, sugary. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: pretty sweet, some caramel, floral, dried fruits, caramel, bit cheesy, sugary, raisins, candy. Aftertaste: sugary, candy, bitterness, dried fruits, mocha, dark chocolate. Tastes more like a barley wine than an IPA. Probably the age. Have to try a fresh one too, I think.

Mörk doft av humle och frukt. Stor tung smak med mycket humle, gräs, applesin. Lång eftersmak om något besk

In short: A IIPA that tastes like a very resinous and sticky barley wine, very nice
How: Bottle 750ml. Exact age unknown but consumed
The look: Cloudy bronze body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Nose of hops resin, wood resin and toffee. Taste has a lot of wet wood, toffee, wood resin, forest floor, refreshing tropical fruits (pineapples mainly), sticky hops resin. Overall sensation is that of a very sticky resinous beer. There are some very contrasting flavors in this beer and that’s what I found interesting about it. If you’re looking for a typical American style Double IPA you will probably be disappointed but if you think of it as a resinous hoppy barley wine then you will find it a lot of fun. A pretty good beer but like it is the case with many Italian beers: nice bottle, nice label, high price-tag. At some point I may have to stop drinking those expensive Italian beers unless I catch a break, because right now I’m probably 0 for 600 in looking for safes behind paintings hung on walls.
