Visual: KELP! I need somebody... Pours super dark brown with a small quickly dissipating head, not much retention, lots and lots of fast activity. Nose: sweet brown sugar malts, mild roasted coffee. (lvl-5)-pungency Attack: incoming med dark malts Mid-palate: immediate seawater saltiness, tingly-fizzy, (lvl-5)-sweetness, (MAIN) brown sugar malts, light roast, cola, mild soy sauce Finish: lingering salty, malty, soft bitter hops, malty sweet/salty finish. Summary: It has the saltiness of the sea but not quite the seaweed or "vegginess" of kelp. Overall the stout is okay, a nice twist, but not that memorable.

650ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a small white head which leaves no lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark fruits with hints of chocolate and caramel. Taste is a dark fruity and light chocolate sweetness with a mild herbal hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with mild carbonation. Not enough roasted grain bitterness or body for the style. Ok, but needs more.

Black pour with brown head. Aroma brings out salted dark chocolate, toast. Flavour has dark chocolate, balancing bitterness. Salty smooth finish. Works quite well.

Beige foamy coloured head, decent lace. An opaque deep brown body delivers the aroma of coffee and water of the sea. Flavours of espresso, earth malt, with some thin soya sauce and salt. Flavourful, but not overpowering. This beer is very enjoyable. Tofino’s best offering I’ve experienced.

The deep, opaque blackness with creamy white head, combined with a nose full of caramel- with a hint of spice- certainly bodes well. Most of this is lost in the actual drink, however. Aside from the spicy edge, it’s got very little interesting happening when you drink it.

Dark brown, aroma has a light fudginess. Salty, the salts fill the mouth, rendering the chocolatey malts sweet and fudgey. The salt really impacts the mouthfeel.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver
Black color with creamy nitro style head. Intense harmonious aroma of roasted malt. Smooth and round mouthfeel; good blend of roasted malt flavor and coffee, not aggressive, although there is too much liquorice for me; moderate sweetness; some astringency in the final, maybe salty too.

Quite heavy bodied even for a stout. I liked the slightly salty / earthiness presumably from the kelp

On tap at the Alibi Room for the 500th beer list, pours black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is pretty briny, with seaweed-like notes, some roast, and light cocoa. Flavour is quite salty, with notes of seaweed, salt, chocolate, a touch of licorice, and roasted malt. Not as briny on the flavour as on the nose, but it is certainly saltier. Surprisingly well-balanced and well-brewed. Great experiment.
