Doppelganger (1080), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jun 16, 2008 Cask, Far From The Madding Crowd, Oxford. Pale copper, just a little white head. Simple warm tangerine aroma. Soft marmalade sweetness. Very soft and unassuming--maybe a little too unassuming. Not bad, but for a strong-ish bitter it doesn’t really do much of note. hughie (2054), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England May 17, 2008 Cask, gravity, at 7th Devonshire Arms Beer Festival, Bedford. Copper with a small white head. Floral hop aroma, though malt predominates in the taste. Some bitterness. A little too lively in the glass, but a good one. Surprised to note it’s 5.1%. imdownthepub (3937), Banbury, Oxfordshire, Oxfordshire, England Jun 6, 2004 Cask Conditioned at No.1 Refreshment Room, Cleethorpes, Lincs. Gold / Straw colour with white head. Malty, lagerish flavours in the initial mouthfull which then opens up to a dry grapefruit citric flavour with an orange peel background. The alcohol is not noticed at all which makes this one a dangerous beer. Highly drinkable and enjoyable. chris_o (4393), London, Greater London, England May 19, 2004 An interesting beer. Appealing golden colour. Slightly grassy aroma with some herbal notes, but, as this was at a Wetherspoons, the beer was as usual served too cold to get a good handle on the nasal nuances. May have scored better at a more sensible temperature. The flavour has more fruit and malt undertones than I expected, but there is plenty of tangy hop presence to balance that. However, this doesn’t appear to be the most aggressive hop variety and the finish is quite soft. Drinks easily - well below it’s alcohol level. A pleasant drop.
